8.5.1 General Troubleshooting Procedure

When handling a fault, make a detailed record of the fault phenomena. The customers in
China can contact our 24-hour technical support center at 400-830-2118, and the customers
in areas outside China can contact the local Huawei offices.

General Troubleshooting Procedure

Comment No. Description

1 When recording the fault phenomena, make a true and detailed record of the
entire process of the fault. Record the exact time when the fault occurs and the
operations performed before and after the fault occurs. Save the alarms,
performance events, and other important information. You can use the click-to-
collect function on the NMS to collect data.

2 Faults owing to external factors, including the power supply, cables, environment,
and terminal equipment (such as switch devices)

3 Determine the fault type according to preliminary analysis on alarms. Handle

different types of faults as follows:
• Troubleshooting Service Interruptions
• Troubleshooting the Radio Link
• Troubleshooting Bit Errors in TDM Services
• Troubleshooting Pointer Justifications
• Troubleshooting the Interconnection with SDH Equipment
• Troubleshooting the Interconnection with PDH Equipment
• Troubleshooting Native Ethernet Service Faults
• Troubleshooting Ethernet Service on the EoS/EoPDH Plane
• Troubleshooting MPLS Tunnels
• Troubleshooting CES Services
• Troubleshooting ATM Services
• Troubleshooting Ethernet Services Carried by PWs
• Troubleshooting DCN Faults
• Troubleshooting Orderwire Faults
