Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is a five and half-year course. The course involves four and a half - a year of
classroom study followed by a year of rotating internship. Offered by Panjab University, Chandigarh and approved by National
Medical Commission.

Admission Process

Admission will be made strictly on the basis of rank/merit obtained in NEET (UG).

Eligibility Criteria

1. Every candidate seeking admission should have attained the age of 17 years on or before 31st December.

2. Only Indian Citizens are eligible to apply under the categories of UT Chandigarh Pool & All India Quota.

3. A candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English individually in the
 qualifying 12th standard examination or other equivalent qualifying examination.

4. A candidate must have secured following minimum percentage of marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and
Biology/Biotechnology taken together in 12 standard examination or other equivalent qualifying examination:

General category: not less than 50%, SC/ST category: not less than 40%, Person with Disability category: not less than
45%.

5. The candidates (including Foreign Indian Student/NRI/PIO category candidates) must have come in the merit list of NEET
(UG) for MBBS/BDS by securing following minimum marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology taken together:

General category: not less than the 50th percentile, ST category: not less than 40th Percentile, Person with Disability
category: not less than 45th Percentile.

About College:

Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh was established in the year 1991 and the foundation stone was laid
by the former Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Chandra Shekhar. The institute is also known as GMCH. In the year 1991 the
institute was granted provisional affiliation by the Panjab University and later on in the year 1999 it got the permanent
affiliation. Sh. Baleshwar Rai, the then Adviser to the Administrator of Chandigarh inaugurated the very first academic session
of GMCH in the year 1991. Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh offers undergraduate and postgraduate
courses to the students. The institute has secured 29th rank in the Medical category in NIRF 2021 Ranking with an overall
score of 51.9 out of 100. It had secured 25th rank in the same category in NIRF 2020 Rankings.
