Life within ruins
-
poraneity and archaeology. Piscina Mirabilis represents a powerful example of the hypostyle
hall typology, and the range of interventions coming out from Re-use the Roman Ruin compe-
tition can be a strong replicable and scalable model for similar contexts. The analysis of the
winning projects of the contest passed through a recognition of the main themes of investiga-
tion regarding the various proposals, identifying a general dichotomy between an upper world
and an underground – or upside-down – one, and consequently discussing related topics – the
roof as public space or as landscape; territorial landmarks; water as a design element; the
descension to the underground - highlighting how they were developed by the designers.
