Don Quixote: Renaissance

Miguel de Cervantes is Spanish W. Shakespeare with lots of adventures! He modernized the language
and started the pandemic of imagination across Europe, outside of church’s dogma. You should
seriously read about his life ( spoiler alert: he was abducted by pirates) and read everything he wrote!

Before , you have to understand the time and place were book was written. Shortly, educated people
were mainly royalty and clergymen, who liked status quo because of many things (but the two favorites
that come to mind are power and reputation) and he challenged them with a silly character called Don
Quixote- self proclaimed knight called Alonso (in the book, you will find that he was knighted by the
barkeep ). The story is carried by two fantastic books and was, at first, considered as a parody of ,
popular at the time, books that celebrate knights. These books had negative impact on people (books
were giving hope to regular folk and they was dangerous) and the king wanted to cut the root of the
problem- so prohibition of such books was in order!

So, book follows a delusional man called Alonso, who wants to see the world and have adventures like
knights he idolizes (remember the popular books at the time). He names his horse, idolizes a girl from a
nearby village (elements for being a knight) get knighted at a bar, “saves” a guy who follows him around
and helps ( because every knight had to have one) and they go to do good! Their funny adventures have
a lot of digressions, so for example Don Quixote finds the giants ( which were actually windmills) and
fights them!

Wouldn’t have the heart to SPOIL the end, so you will have to read it!
