Expression or style becomes important for us. A serious mistake that we

do is to consider that formal elements in literature are the matter for
specialists only. Style and expressions are not merely for the specialists
but also for the reader who wants to enjoy and to enter into human life in
literature. The choice of words, the turn of phrases, the structure of the
sentence, their specific rhythm and cadence are the elements that are the
shows the individuality of the writer. These things make a very less
difference but an author get involve in these very severely.
Pope called it the dress of thought. According to Carlyle, Style is not
the coat of a man but is the skin of the man. Sincerity is the true
principal foundation of style as it is in literature. The qualities, strength
and weaknesses of writer will show through his writing. As it is true that
“Every spirit builds his own truth.” A person who is the master of style
uses his personal style and expression, he don’t copy others. The style of
write follows him as a shadow. His thought, feelings, emotions and
motives all comes in his individual style. His style will be good when his
personality possess strong qualities whether they are good or bad.
Sometime a person who knows a language well but even he remains
unable to enjoy a piece of literature. We all can gain an understanding of
true nature, changes, motive of the author by observing the style he uses.
If we examine the author’s writing chronologically, then we will came to
know about the changes he made in his style or thoughts with the
passage of time. So style become an index of the author’s personality.
