Installation of MC4 connectors

Only use MC4 connectors from Stäubli. Mixing contacts with different can cause the connections to
neither provide proper contact nor become tight. It is the same procedure for pressing both female
and male contacts.

Necessary tools

1. The wire is stripped by placing the wire in the right place in relation to the cross section, and let it
protrude 6 - 8 mm. The different cross-sections are marked at the top of the stripping tool.

In connection with the panels, 4 mm2 is normally used, and 6 mm2 is normally used for the cable
between the panels and the disconnection switch and / or inverter.

6 – 7,5 mm
2. Insert the splice sleeve into the press bar (4 mm2 is the middle hole), making sure that the "wings"
point straight up towards the top of the tool. If there is too much "crack" on the wings, you can
squeeze them a little with your fingers. Insert the stripped wire into the clamp (make sure that the
insulation does not enter the pressure area), and press the pliers completely together.

3. When the pressing is done, check that:

• all the cords are inside the collar, that this is

not deformed, and that no parts of the «wings»
are missing
• the pressed area is symeric, and that cords
protrude on the contact side of the pressing area

4. Insert the finished female and male contacts into the

corresponding insulated holders. You will normally hear
a small "click" when they are pushed far enough in.
Tighten the nipple by hand.

5.Insert the test pin into the female and male

connectors to check that the contact surfaces
themselves are correctly positioned inside the insulated
coupling parts. You should see some of the white ring when properly positioned.

6. Position the tightening tools as shown in the figure to the right,

and tighten with a component of between 3.4 and 3.5 Nm. There
are special torque wrenches that are recommended for this (NEC
2017, section 110.14 (D))

When using the right torque, the nipple nut will not be screwed in completely, as shown in the figure
below.

7. Bring the female and male plug together

8.The cables must not be "broken" just outside the nipple

nut, but go straight ahead for at least 20 mm, as shown in the
figure to the right.

9.If the wires are to be disconnected, this is

done using the tool shown in the figure to
the right.
