Manmad-Nandgaon road work to be done at cost of Rs

NASHIK: The Manmad-Nandgaon road, which is a part of the Manmad-

Chalisgaon National Highway, is being widened, strengthened and
concretised. The Union ministry of road transport and highways has
allotted Rs 140 crore to upgrade the erstwhile state highway after the
Manmad-Nandgaon-Chalisgaon stretch was declared a national highway.
The work to upgrade the 21km stretch between Manmad and Nandgaon,
which falls in Nashik district, has begun and is being carried out by the
national highway division of the state public works department (PWD). The
upgrade will ensure a smoother commute between the taluka
headquarters, Nandgaon and Manmad town, which has a major railway
junction, petroleum storage hub for three petroleum companies and Food
Corporation of India (FCI) godown.

“The work has started. The entire road will be built using concrete and all the culverts, hume pipe drains, small and big bridges
will be rebuilt,” said YA Patil, the executive engineer.
The 7.7km road from Manmad to Panewadi will have four lanes, while the 13.6km stretch from Panewadi to Nandgaon will have
two lanes. The four-laning will help in the easier and safer movement of the petroleum vehicles from the depots of the three
petroleum companies. Moreover, a fresh 900m stretch will be laid avoiding the dangerous spots near the Hiswal village, the
officer added.

The entire exercise to widen the road will require an additional 62.1 hectare of land. About 60.9 hectare is already available,
and only 1.18 hectare will have to be acquired from private owners.
