Narrative Reflection

Brought by the gradual modernity of the world within the past centuries, social media has shaped
our lives in the most significant way possible. Especially in the newer generations, social media has
become a critical molder as how we live the kind of life we want to choose. Social media has many
positive attributes to us humans. First, it enables us to communicate easily with each other, even when we
are in the farthest corners of the earth and thousand miles away from each other. Social media helps us to
keep up with our loved ones in their everyday lives as many social media platforms has allowed us to do.
Additionally, social media also made it possible for us to connect with different people, interests, groups
and organization that oftentimes contribute to our endeavors in life. For instance, when we want to sell
something, we can use the social media to advertise our products and help us be able to promote those,
reach a wider audience, and gain engagements. Social media also gives us the kind of entertainment
where we are able to watch the most trending contents and topics in almost every topic of interest. Social
media also allows provides us with platforms to promote our advocacies. Many as an outlet to express
their feelings, thoughts and ideas about certain things even used it. To sum it all up, social media has
become the newer generation’s confidant in many things, which is what also comprises its positive
benefits to its users. However, there are always two sides of a coin.
As previously stated, social media has brought many changes, convenience and benefits to many
people, however, there is always a darker side of it. Social media has been one of the causes why adults
and even youths of today are becoming depressed or developing anxiety in their mental health. Social
media, with the diversity of its users, has become a haven for toxicity and negativity in the modern world.
Cyberbullying is one of the best examples of the cons of social media. The scarier part of it comes in the
fact that anything could viral or could reach millions of people in just a few seconds, and the torment of
one bad post could go for years and even lifetime. For instance, there has been lots of personal
information and data that is being leaked online even without the consent and permission of the owner.
Some of these information can even be confidential and sensitive which is what also the most favorite
topics and baits by others. The victims of these circumstances then suffers from trauma, as the footprint of
their most sensitive data are shared to many which is already hard to omit given the speed of the internet
and the efficiency of the technology. Another instance of the cons of social media is that it depicts many
things that can be influence people’s lives in so many ways. For example, younger kids using these social
media may see sensitive or inappropriate things that may demoralize them or influence to do bad things.
