Abstract

The Aim of this report is to identify and give solutions to tackle a strike
situation in a clothing apparel garment factory. Employees take the
route of striking when they have excessive work hours, low wages,
any form of discrimination, lack of tools and resources,
mismanagements from seniors etc. Ultimately these challenges can
be overcome if we take some precautions such as practicing empathy
towards employees. By maintaining a positive attitude. Hiring a a
good HR team, getting security involved to prevent vandalism and
disruptions.

1
Introduction

A strike is an extremely effective tool that labor’s and labor

movements groups use to get their demands met. A group of
employees typically abandon their jobs in order to put pressure on
their company to agree to their demands. Workers are said to go on
strike when they collectively stop working in a particular industry.

Strike basically means an organized and intentional stoppage or

slowdown of work by employees, intending to make the employer
comply with the demands of the employees.

2
Background

In a strike, a group of workers agree to stop working in Clothing

Apparel Garment Factory to protest against things they think is unfair.
Workers were chanting slogans demanding better conditions and
with holded their services in order to pressurize the company to meet
their demands.

Demands made by strikers ranged from asking for higher wages or

better benefits to seeking changes in the workplace environment.
Strikes occured so that employers listen more carefully to the
workers and address their problems.

3
Findings

Reasons Why Employees may Go on Strike

 My findings indicate that there are Several reasons that drived

employees to go on strike, and one of them is low wages.

Many employees believed that, by going on strike, they have very

little to lose since they are not taking home very much money
anyway.

 Poor working conditions are another reason why employees

engaged in job action.

 Lack of Leaves with wages holidays Bonus, profit sharing, and

Provident fund.

 Poor communication with the employer is also another factor

that drived employees to go on strike.
4
Other reasons why employees engaged in strikes include unfair
wage disparity between top management and lower-level
employees, mistrust between the employer and employees, as well
as poor working conditions.
Once the strike is over, although the employer may not have fired the
employees, an unhealthy employment relationship may be created.

Furthermore, there can be a division between employees who went

on strike and those who decided to stay and work.

Effects Of Strike On a Factory

When workers embark on a strike it sends a ripple effect through the

company. It caused service delivery delay

It also results in customers not being helped and financial strain to

the business

 The loss of profits is not one item in the total losses that a
company suffered

 The Garment factory crippled because of the loss of the market

connection beyond the period of strike.
 Goodwill may be lost.

 Machines got spoilt. Additional expenditure have incurred on

protecting the factory and on strike breaking activities.

Publicity and propaganda are yet other items adding to its costs.
Besides the loss of mental peace, respect and status in the
community cannot be calculated in terms of money.

6
Conclusion

The main issues that we found is workers voted for a strike when they
got frustrated because their needs, wants, when their ideas were
going unheard, unheeded, or unanswered. Low wages are one of the
main reasons why workers engaged in strike action against the
company. Other reasons include unfair wage disparity between top
management and lower-level employees, mistrust between the
employer and employees, as wel as poor working conditions. Strikes
also caused service delivery delay, loss of market connection and
strain to the busines.

7
Recommendations

Now that we have unpacked the impact of strike challenges that

Clothing Apparel Factory faced let’s discuss about how factory can
overcome before it leads to strike action. Here are a few ways to help
manage the impact of a strike

 The moment there are whispers around a possible strike by

employees, get into a room with the union members to
understand what the complaints are. This will help you get
ahead of the issue and prevent a major setback in service
delivery.

There is no guarantee that each time things will work in your favour
and you would be able to resolve the issues before it escalates to a
protest.
But what this would show your employees is that you value their
role in your organisation and that you want to ensure if they are
experiencing any challenges, then you are willing to assist them to
overcome it.
 Have a good HR team that are properly skilled and able to
handle the queries of staff. This will create a more secure
environment for staff to show the concerns and see that it can
be dealt with. Implement continues training and staff wellness
programs to acknowledge the injustice of staff. This will allow
you to monitor their satisfaction as an employee of the
organization. Improving your staff skills and investing in their
wellness will show staff your vested interest in their
development.

 When staff do go on board on a strike ensure that there are

protocols that can be put in place do manage the
circumstances of a strike. Things like getting a security involved
to prevent damages.

There is no telling how a strike might turn out. having a plan to

manage the situation is necessary to try and reduce the overall
impact the strike has on the business. The sooner negotiations
happen the better it will be for the staff and employer.

1
Introduction

Leadership challenges in the workplace are a part of the business.

There are always going to be new workplace issues, but the important
thing is that you can work through them in a logical, timely way. As a
Human Resource Manager it my duty to know employees issues that
they are facing and make precautionary measures to resolve those
issues

2
Background

SCW Corporation has been operating for 10 years. It consists of 300

workers and Employee. Their Satisfaction is important to an
organization's success, this research has been conducted into ways
of improving job satisfaction of workers and to resolve the issues
they had in previous 3 months.

3
Findings

After doing significant research I have found some of the main and
some common challenges that our workers are facing

 Some workers have complaint that the equipment in the

factory is in constant disrepair, and nothing has been repaired
for a significant period of time. This includes issues with the
Sewing machines, the chairs, the tables, and the ceiling fans.

 Second is Poor quality of the food that we are getting from the
cafeteria nowadays is the biggest problem the workers are
facing.. The caterer does not seem to bother whether the food
he prepares are of a certain standard. He is simply cooking and
serving them to workers. I suspect that some of the food-
poisoning cases we have had in the previous month may have
arisen out of consuming contaminated food from the cafeteria.
I cannot say for sure unless I properly investigate further.

4
 A lack of training is also leading to a number of workplace
issues. The most obvious one is that workers aren’t able to do
their jobs as well as they would do.

Poor training is a challenge that we are facing alot in the workplace

that is leading to increased frustration because workers don’t know
what it takes to improve their performance or excel in their roles.
This is leading to burnout, which is very damaging for the employee
and the business.

 A lack of communication is also a big problem that we are

facing. Without communication, it’s difficult for workers to
know what’s expected of them. It also means that other
problems go unreported, rather than getting fixed, so they
begin to stack up.

Poor communication is hurting productivity and leading to more

errors, so it’s important that we need to find ways to improve in this
area.

5
Conclusion

The most obvious one is that workers aren’t able to do their jobs as
well as they would do, Poor training is a challenge that we are facing
alot in the workplace that is leading to increased frustration because
workers don’t know what it takes to improve their performance or
excel in their roles. We suspected that some of the food-poisoning
cases we have had in the previous month may have arisen out of
consuming contaminated food from the cafeteria. Poor
communication is hurting productivity and leading to more errors.
Some complaint that we received are the equipment in the factory is
in constant disrepair, and nothing has been repaired for a significant
period of time. A lack of training is leading to a number of workplace
issues.

6
Recommendations

Now that we have highlighted that issues that our workers facing.
let’s discuss about how we can overcome these issues before it leads
to an unattainable situation. Here are a few ways we can manage the
issues.

 In order solve cafeteria issue there are several steps that need
to be taken. First, the factory owners need to decide on weather
they want to give contract to new cafeteria company or keep
the same and have a proper check and balance on the quality of
food This includes deciding on the healthy menu options. Hiring
a professional chef and staff. so the factory workers can have
high quality food.

 Encouraging open communication should be one of the main

roles of a manager. It’s about putting systems in place that
allows messages to travel freely from top-to-bottom, and
bottom to top.

Sometimes this can be as simple as finding the right platform to

communicate on. For example, we are be doing everything
through letter and emails form, when instead, what we need is
something more instant.
So I have decided to have meeting hours with workers every
Thursday and Saturday between 5 pm to 6 pm where they can
discuss every issues that they are facing directly with me.

 It is also important to see training as an investment. When you

make training a big part of your culture, it will come back to you
in improved efficiency and productivity.

We need to Make sure it’s an open process by involving our workers

in the conversation. Ask them what skills they think they need to work
on.
