Renewable energy is energy derived from natural resources that replenish themselves in less than a

human lifetime without depleting the planet’s resources. These resources – such as sunlight, wind,
rain, tides, waves, biomass and thermal energy stored in the earth’s crust – have the benefit of being
available in one form or another nearly everywhere. They are virtually inexhaustible. and, what is
even more important, they cause little climate or environmental damage. and because the major
sources of alternative energy in Morocco are solar and wind. Morocco has sat an ambitious renewable
development target and in order to decrease its fossil dependency and take advantage of its large
resources, Morocco started investing in renewables energy such as wind energy and solar energy in
2000. so, in this paragraph we will discuss a little bit about the wind energy in Morocco.

In recent years, the use of wind energy has become increasingly attractive for the successful and
economic development. Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy technologies of
electricity generation. Wind energy has proved its potential in combating environmental degradation
while ensuring a renewable, efficient and clean energy source. Good wind sites can even be
competitive with traditional energy sources. Morocco has huge wind energy potential due to coastline
and average wind speeds, Regions near the Atlantic coast, such as (Essaouira, Tangier and Tetouan
and Tarfaya, Laayoune, Dakhla ) has excellent wind power potential. Due to this morocco start to use
this energy by installing the first wind farm in 2000 in El Koudia El Baida (Tlat Taghramt – Province
of Tetouan), in 2007, Amogdoul wind farm, on CAP SIM south of Essaouira, came online. This wind
farm was realized by the national utility ONE. This energy emits no or low greenhouse gases and
that’s good for the climate, emits also no or low air pollutant and that’s better for our health, and we
cannot forget that it’s secure and that’s good for stability.
In conclusion we can say that In Morocco, there are many opportunities because the country has
already achieved high renewable energy production. If you look at the map of Morocco for wind and
solar projects, there is tremendous potential. Before, we were 95 percent dependent on fossil fuel
imports, but not anymore due to renewable projects. This is a fundamental economic change and
opportunity.
