The story of a hero who opposes colonialism, is now appointed as a national

hero

Sultan Himayatuddin or who is more familiarly called la karambau or oputa yikoo, he is the
third of twelve children, and his father named La Umati is the thirteenth sultan. When he
became an adult, he married the daughter of the sultan Sakiuddin Durul Alam, from this
marriage three sons and a daughter were born, namely capitalau lawele, La Ode Harikiama,
La Ode Pepago, and Wa Ode Wakato, in 1755 Wa Ode Wakato and grandchildren Wa Ode
Kamali was held captive by the Dutch { yi lingkaakana Walanda } The things that stand out
from la karambau are his leadership qualities that please others, the elements in him that
have made him a great leader. This is because the scope of social boundaries is not only in
the palace but with a wider scope. His abilities were forged by the harsh buton culture and
the challenges of the times that made him strongly oppose oppressive behavior. La
Karambau had 2 terms when he served as sultan, namely the 20th sultan from 1752-1755
and the 23rd sultan from 1760-1763.

The struggle of la karambau against Dutch colonialism When he became the sultan of Buton,
when he became sultan he opposed the agreement made by the Dutch VOC because it
harmed the Buton kingdom, the agreement that took place in 1667 which contained the
extermination of spices by the Dutch VOC and an attitude of opposition arose by
lakarambau and there was a dispute with the Dutch Company. La Karambau’s anger took
place When pirates robbed the VOC’s RUST EN WERK on 15 September 1750, at this time La
Karambau did not help the VOC in that incident, which then erupted in war and made the
Dutch launch their large army to Baubau.

When La Karambau chose to go into exile to Siontapina to return to fight the Dutch, it was
proven by the forts built by La Karambau in Siontapina. When the Dutch left Baubau La
Karambau chose to stay in Siontapina until the end of his life and died in 1776, he was
buried at the peak of Siontapina
