INTRODUCTION:
Looking at the above bible verses we will see that in verse 4, Timothy also has some tears.
Had it been that Apostle Paul did not mention it we would not have known. As we look at
this studies together, we will see Paul and other prescription to maintaining a sound mind
in an unsecured environment.

DEFINITION OF TERMS:
SOUND MIND: When a person has sufficient mental capacity to understand their actions.
BIBLICAL DEFINITION OF SOUND MIND: Self control, self discipline, discipline, good
judgment and sound judgment.

Can we give our own definition of sound mind?

UNSECURED ENVIRONMENT:
Not made secure or firm; not kept firmly in place.

What are your definitions of insecure environment?

The book of 2Timothy is the last letter of Paul before his execution. He knew there is still
lots of work (spreading of the Gospel) to be done and he will not be available to do it.
Hence, he wrote to Timothy who is timid and fearful in an environment filled with
intimidation from those who are older than him in the church and persecution from the
government of that time in which Paul was about to be executed.

For Paul, the best way for Timothy to maintain a sound mind in such environment is to
have the following which is applicable to us in this times;

-Have a genuine faith. 2Timothy 1:5 True faith has a way of preserving us in times of
insecurity. It does to the early Christians, it still will in our time.
-Stir up the gift of God in you. 2Timothy 1:6. Everyone of us has been given a gift.
Proverbs 18:16.
-The Spirit of power and love. 2Timothy 1:7. In order to maintain sound mind in this
generation, one needs the spirit of Power and love. Love is a language every man even
animals understand.
