My Classical Experience

The first music that I heard is the “Surprise” by name of Symphony No. 94 in G
Major, orchestral work by Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn. It has a loud chord
that interrupts the soft and gentle flow of the second movement. The second movement
was composed in sonata-allegro form. It sounds awesome and energetic. The title of this
piece is compatible to its sounds. Perfect for the scenarios that have surprises and such.
The tempo is Andante. Haydn takes a more homophonic approach to the slow
introduction, contrasting the timbres of the woodwind and string sections. And lastly, the
3/4 opening provides an almost solemn contrast to the main 6/8, which is lively in its
nature, given its naturally lilting rhythms.

The second music is the Magic Flute of Mozart. It was performed in Opera. I was
amazed how the woman sang the piece well. She has an incredible voice. Also the
harmony is functional and diatonic, and is punctuated by perfect and imperfect cadences.
Chromatic chords are used to decorate and create tension in the drama. The predominant
texture is melody-dominated homophony, with the melody line being accompanied by a
homophonic texture. The dynamics of this movement range from piano to forte, with
some fp (fortepiano) and sf (sforzando). Crescendos are used (for example in the
orchestral introduction), often to increase tension.

The last song is Fur Elise of Ludwig van Beethoven. This piece is familiar to me,
somehow. I remember when I was in my childhood days, I played this piece on the app
Piano Tiles on my phone. I found it’s mood is predominantly sad with a faster paced
more happy interlude. Homophonic with a single main melody throughout the piece
played by a single piano.

And lastly, the piece starts off quite quiet however gets quite loud when the tempo
changes. Overall, the song is good and perfect. I found this song relaxing and helped my
mind to have peace.
