C, THE BACCALAUREATE EXAMINATION FOR SECONDARY
EDUCATION:
The “BAC” (baccalaureate examination): is a nation-wide examination
taken following the 13-year primary and secondary educational cycle,
testing the student's assimilation of his generalized and specialized
secondary school curriculum. Large numbers of students fail the
examination the first time and overall passing rate - which includes
those retaking the examination —is usually well under 50%. Passing
the BAC sanctions the student's secondary education and gives him
the right to continue into higher education and to apply for a
government scholarship. It is not merely equivalent to a high school
