1. INTRODUCTION

The development of design ideas is

at the core of education in creative
based fields where the employment
of skills and experiences is by
nature a reflective practice inquiry.
As this presentation introduces an
integrated approach to achieve a
successful sustainable development
of buildings and environment.
2. OBJECTIVE

The objectives of the project are presented as follows:

This study is an experiment that aims to explore how an integrated and

interactive strategy for design education was adopted in developing

ideas for a sustainable building project.

It also examines the capacity of influencing their environmental values

through their engagement in the project.
3. STUDY AREA
( A. Location )

Map of Cambodia
Site

The Site is located at Beong Kok area, Infront of Eden Garden Mall in Sangkat Srah
Chak, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

( B. Landuse Condition )

Landuse Condition Map

The project is located on an

open land condition that is
now vacant and left in a
natural state which is perfectly
for recreational use into a
coffee shop. With the
surrounding shopping mall,
Local store, Commercials and
residentials.

4. Environment condition

a. Pollution

Air pollution

comes
Air pollution
from the burning of
fuels such as kerosene,
diesel and coal for
transportation,
domestic use and
industrial and energy
use.
5. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION
5.1. Climate
The study area is being influenced by monsoon climate causing it to have an average
of maximum temperature to 31C and 23C on average of minimum temperature each
months.
a. Wind

According to the diagram below, during December, November and January are the months with
the strongest wind speed respectively with 28Km per hour wind speed as its peak. On the
contrary, September has the weakest wind speed, sharing the most days in a month on average
with 5km per hour or less wind speed.
b. Rainfall

It is only logical that during raining season in Cambodia is the period of time that receive the most
rainfall in a year. The beginning of wet season slowly start from May and progressively pour
rainfall until late November.
c. Soil
The study area is the capital
city of Cambodia which also
located in the area where
there is a river stream flow
by. The west side of the city
consists of Alluvial lithosol
soil. However, on the
eastside has a mix of cultural
hydromorphics sold and red-
yellow podzols soil.

d. solar radiation

Sun rises from the east

and sets in the west which
causes the surrounding
areas to receive daily solar
radiations measured at 25-

usable electricity
6. proposed building development
Although running a coffee might seem to be more difficult in your point of view to make it
sustainable but we would definitely love to change some habits to create a positive impact to
the environment. For the surrounding building , the landscape of the area is flat.
a. Architechtural design

This is the perspective view of our proposed building, which is a modern designed coffee shop
with a sustainable concept. As you can see, we designed the space for our costumes for them to
easily communicate face-to-face. In the front view of the upper floor, I recognize three umbrellas,
which are to protect our costumes from the sun, wind, etc.

b. Interior optimization

The building has 11.064 meters

for width, and 27.148 meter for
length .All are mostly made from
glass, brick and concrete to make
the building strong and
sustainable. We use doors that
are made from glass to make it
look modern .The floor and
furniture are made from wood to
save money and cut down plastic
usage to save Environment.

7.Interactive impact between proposed design and
environment

The major parts of our materials are concrete and steel, because the materials
that we choose can handle the weather obstacles since the condition of our
building is usually rainy.

Construction contributes to environmental damage both on a global scale as well

as locally. Here are five suggestions for reducing environmental impact during your
construction project.
1) LIMIT FUEL USAGE

A construction firm's biggest negative impact

on the environment is caused by the burning of
fossil fuels, like gas and diesel. Every
construction project results in these gas
emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and
other waste products that pollute the air and
are believed to contribute to global warming.

2) UTILIZE REUSABLE TECHNOLOGY

Inflatable water dams are a great alternative

to traditional dewatering solutions. They are
reusable, take up little space, and use existing
water resources already on the site instead of
sandbags or other hard-to-install materials
such as plastic sheeting.
3) REDUCE NOISE

Many construction sites are located near homes

and businesses, and noise complaints might be likely.
Construction noise is a major source of noise pollution.
Most of this noise is produced by machinery in site preparation,
demolition, and landscaping. Be sure to send a letter to neighbors before
beginning work to alert them to how long the project will last.

OPERATIONAL ENERGY BASED ON THE NATURAL SOURCES

Buildings utilize solar energy mainly through three types of technology: solar PV,
solar thermal, and photovoltaic-thermal (PV-T) technology, respectively. Applications of
solar energy technology in buildings are affected by various factors, including the
characteristics of solar irradiance. These factors need to be comprehensively
examined by decision-makers before utilizing solar energy in buildings.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Demolition waste makes up 90% of total debris, and much of this waste is
disposed of in landfills or through incineration. By salvaging, reusing and recycling
existing materials, you can cut down on materials harming our precious earth.
Design a waste management system that is well documented and supervised.
Hardware, appliances, and fixtures can be recycled or reused.

BEYOND SUSTAINABILITY

Any opportunity to reduce our environmental footprint cost-effectively can be a part of

a more comprehensive solution to address climate change, excessive waste, and
pollution. Our coffee shop is already designed to enable natural, locally sourced
ingredients. Using sustainable ingredients means less energy and pollution are created
along the supply chain.
8.CONCLUSION

In the event up-front costs are higher for high performance sustainable buildings, they can
be recovered. Integrated design lowers ongoing operating costs. Better buildings equate to
better employee productivity. New technologies enhance health and well being. Healthier
buildings can reduce liability. Tenants’ costs can be significantly reduced. Property value
will increase.
