Chapter 18, p. 14 Pages "RAM Connection Standalone CE Unis systems Curent Date: © Hand Calculations Hand calculations for composite beams, girders, and columns were executed to verify the member sizes and capacities produced from RAMSTEEL. Following the hand calculations, an excel spreadsheet was made to efficiently analyze the different members of the structure. The hand calculations presented in this report do not serve as an accurate representation of the office building. Rather, the purpose of the attached hand calculations is to show the procedure taken to design the building. The spreadsheets reflect the process shown in the hand calculations, but with the capabilities of adjusting the conditions to those identical to the office building. All design caleul: ins were performed using the suggested design methods proposed in Structural Stee! Design: A Practice Oriented Approach. Assumptions made for the hand calculations can be found in the “Design Assumptions” section. These hand calculations and spreadsheets can be found in Appendix B. Cost estimation ‘The cost estimation is based on the assumption that construction duration is 110 days. Length is, based on Centerline dimensions, and weight is based on actual member areas, not nominal weights. Table 5 and 6 contain details of the estimated value of construction. 49 Table 5: Frame Component Total weight (1b) | Cost per unit weight Amount (8) Columns 161837 0.95 153,745 Beams 116956 0.95 111,108 Braces 33670 0.95 31,986 Total Cost of Steel 296,839 Table 6: Human Resources Labor Component Number Total days at | Payment per day| Amount ($) work i) Estimator 1 1 600 600 Labor 8 110 3,200 352,000 Crane operator = 110 800 88,000 Total Human Source Cost 440,600 Discussion and Conclusion RAMSTEEL program is an efficient tool in the design of steel structures. Structural members can be easily designed and the final model output to DXF file to produce final detail drawings.
