Samuels, Ziggy “Read: Busking 101 (How to Master the Art in 2021).” The Broke Backpacker, February

2022. https://www.thebrokebackpacker.com/busking-101/.

Ziggy Samuels blogs about his own experiences and experiences of others in busking during their

travels as a way of a small income, and he gives a bare bones guide on how you can start busking on

your own and his opinions on what busking is a great way to make money during your travels. Ziggy goes

on about the impact and impressions he has left on people because of his playing, how much strangers

admire the music and all the brighten days he gives. He even goes in-depth into how the set up for

busking works, specific locations to look out for, and even cites certain equipment that has helped him a

lot during his busking travels. This article is relevant to my capstone because it gives a deep and

personal look into the world of busking and is able to give a good idea what it is like to someone who

has never attempted it before and/or is curious into the matter.

QuickBooks® “Busking in Canada? How to Stay on the Right Side of the Law.” QuickBooks®: Official Site,

September 22, 2022. https://quickbooks.intuit.com/ca/resources/running-a-business/busking-

canada-stay-right-side-law/.

The QuickBooks Team draws a study on the legalities of busking, specifically the laws of busking in

Canada. The article quickly empathises about how large cities in Canada such as Vancouver and

Montreal actually require special busking permits or even auditioning to busk in certain areas and

venues. The article then goes on about the consequences of not researching the laws of busking in

certain areas and how you could get fined or get your equipment taken away. However, it also gives

advice on how not only to avoid legal trouble, but also how to avoid public trouble, by evaluating your

equipment, location, and even time of day. This article is relevant to my capstone because the rules and
laws of busking are very different from county to country, and one should not assume laws. It gives

insight into the legalities behind this business and how to abide by the law and public.

Lancashire Evening Post “Charity Busker Talks about Dangers on the Streets of Preston.” Lancashire

Evening Post, May 9, 2017. https://www.lep.co.uk/news/charity-busker-talks-about-dangers-

streets-preston-730154.

The Lancashire Evening post reports about Preston singer Sophie Cox-O’Shaughnessy’s case with

the dangers of busking. Sophie Cox-O’Shaughnessy is a musician who, in her free time, would busk in her

city of Preston by singing, to bring joy to strangers and to donate any money she earned to charities

such as Care for Kids and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). Sophie

states, “It’s about having fun. But first and foremost, it’s supporting a good cause.“ However, Sophie

then goes on to talk abut her more unpleasant experiences in busking, how there would be instances

where she would get yelled at or even harassed by people who found her singing “annoying”. One such

instance in September of 2017, she was robbed and attacked, left having to need physiotherapy

treatment for her face. While this experience set her back for a while, she continued busking once she

had healed and gained back her confidence. This article is relevant to my capstone because it gives light

to the grizzlier side of busking and not sugar-coating it. Busking, or even any sort of public

entertainment has the chance to go wrong, and it is something to be aware and prepared for.

The Busking Project “Testimonials.” The Busking Project, March 4, 2022. https://busk.co/blog/our-

journey/testimonials/.

The Busking Project is a blog of many buskers from all around the world, and their testimonies

and experiences with busking. Every entry is unique to its own, from solo musicians to circus gigs, every

entry in this long blog post talks about the impact busking has had on themselves and to the people
around them. This article is relevant to my capstone because it just goes to show the diversity and

freedom there is to busk, and how busking isn’t just a solo or group entertainment, but rather a

community that strives to make the world bright and exciting.
