01. EBS Architecture
Oracle E-Business Suite (R12) has a 3 Tier Architecture.
• Client Tier: Desktop Tier, where end users access Oracle E-Business Suite.
• Application Tier: also known as Middle Tier, where all the application logics sits and run
services such as Web Services, Forms Services, Java Application Services & Concurrent
Manager. Application Tier is always deployed on IaaS (OCI)
• Database Tier: On this tier Oracle Database resides and data for E-Business Suite is
stored. Database Tier can be deployed on IaaS (OCI) or PaaS (DB System)

• Database Cloud Service (PaaS)

Oracle E-Business (R12) can be deployed in following two ways:
A) Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
B) Cloud at Customer (C@C)

03. Networking On OCI for EBS R(12)
Networking for EBS (R12) on Cloud, based on experience from my students in ‘EBS R12 on OCI
Trainnig’ is one of the most difficult topic for Apps DBAs & Architects.
Region: Geographical Location where Oracle Cloud Data Centres exists.

Advaialability Domain: Up to three inter connected data centres inside region
VCN: Virtual Cloud Network, software defined network on Cloud
Subnet: Smaller network inside VCN and are of type Public & Private
Security List: Firewall that allow connection across Subnets
Load Balancer: Distribute traffic to multiple backend computes and are of type Public & Private

06. Securing EBS on OCI

Security is one of the important aspect for any application and for Securing EBS on OCI there
are many options at each level. Few of them here :
Bastion Host at ssh level – No direct access to the server from public/private network
SSL Certificates – Running and accessing application at secure layer.
IAM - Authentication, Authorization, and Tools to help you organize and control access to
resources according to organizational hierarchy
IDCS – SSO setup for Applications using Integration via IDCS with Asserter or OAM
Key Management – For Storage, Load Balancer etc managing with custom or Oracle generat-
ed Keys.
TDE – At Database Level – Column or Tablespace levels.
07. High Availability & Disaster Recovery
One of the important question for any organization is, what will happen to the business if
disaster happens or load increases? Is single point of failure, well covered in the architecture
design? If user base or data volume increases, will it be well taken care and sustained?
This is where HA and DR aspect comes. Designing within region or across region? How
Database and Application Scalability is done and what are its limitations, you need to learn all
this.
