Wednesday, student dismissal is at 11:30AM for our afternoon conferences which
will be held in person, or remotely if requested. If you have not yet signed up,

Have a wonderful week.

Understanding Our Differences
ISO Autism Guest Speakers for the Understanding Our Differences Program in the
Arlington Public Schools
This March, all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students in the Arlington Public Schools will
participate in the Understanding Our Differences disability awareness program, which is
being generously funded by an Arlington Education Foundation grant. This program
includes an hour long webinar, where students learn about a specific disability from an
APS special education teacher, hear the life story of a local guest speaker with that
disability, and have an opportunity to ask questions to the guest speaker. The goal of the
program is to educate students and their teachers to value and accept people of all
abilities. In addition, the program provides APS students with disabilities an opportunity
to engage in learning that reflects their identities and experiences.
We are still looking for local Autism speakers for the three 5th grade webinars, which
will take place during the first three weeks of March 2023. Guest speakers may be
Arlington middle or high school students, family members, or community members.
They will be provided with training from Understanding Our Differences staff prior to the
sessions. They will also receive $75 for each session. If you are interested in participating
as a guest speaker, please reach out to Rebecca Bell at rbell@arlington.k12.ma.us or
617–285–7262. Thank you so much for your interest!

Dear Bishop Community -- I’m speechless; just absolutely blown away by the

powers ;)

This is a true testimony of the wonderful family that has been fostered over my past 12
years at Bishop. You are the absolute best; thank you thank you

Gratefully,

Eleventh Annual Cool Science Artwork Competition - Deadline January 13, 2023.
Cool Science
Cool Science is a free and public art competition held each fall for all K-12 artists.
Cool Science is a collaboration between the UMass Lowell, UMass Boston,
Massachusetts College of Art and Design, University of Kansas, and Kansas City Art
Institute. In 2019, Cool Science received a National Science Foundation grant that
helped it expand the project beyond Massachusetts to Kansas, Missouri, and
Southern New Hampshire.
Challenge Questions
This year, we are asking young artists to answer one of the following challenge
questions with a visual work of art:

1. How might your experience with extreme temperatures be different from

kids in other places around the world?
2. Draw someone who is getting ready for flooding where you live.
3. Draw a public transportation system (like buses & trains) that keeps working
in a severe storm.

Competition Winners
During this winter, we will select the best entries for display on public buses in 2023.
The honorees will be recognized at our art exhibit celebrations next year.
