Mark Twain
Samuel Langhorne Clemens was Born November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910 , known by his pen name
Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer.He was praised as
the "greatest humorist the United States has produced , and William Faulkner called him "the father of
American literature. His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures
of Huckleberry Finn (1884) the latter of which has often been called the "Great American Novel". Twain
also wrote A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) and Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894), and co-
wrote The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today (1873) with Charles Dudley Warner.

Washington Irving :

Washington Irving was born April 3, 1783 – died November 28, 1859, was an American short-story
writer, essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat of the early 19th century. He is best known for his
short stories "Rip Van Winkle" (1819) and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (1820), both of which appear in
his collection The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. His historical works include biographies of
Oliver Goldsmith, Muhammad, and George Washington, as well as several histories of 15th-century
Spain that deal with subjects such as Alhambra, Christopher Columbus, and the Moors. Irving served as
American ambassador to Spain in the 1840s.
