What is journalism?
ans-:Journalism is the activity or profession of writing for
newspapers, blog, or news websites or preparing news to be
broadcast on television or radio. Journalists research, write,
and report news stories, articles, entertainment news and
other content. The goal of journalism is to provide accurate and
reliable information to the public so that they can make
informed decisions about the events and issues that affect their
lives.
IMPORTANCE OF JOURNALISM IN OUR SOCIETY ?
ANS-: Journalism also helps to uncover and expose injustices,
corruption, and abuse of power. Additionally, it plays a key role
in shaping public opinion and the cultural narrative.

ans:-Atal Bihari Vajpayee who served as the Prime Minister of
India from 1998 to 2004, has been known for his statesmanlike
approach towards media . He believed that press is a powerful
medium of mass communication and has immense influence on
shaping public opinion. He also emphasized on maintaining the
balance between right to freedom of expression and
responsibility towards the society

Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, who served from


1947 until his death in 1964, had a more positive view of the
role of journalism in society. He believed that a free press is an
essential component of a functioning democracy, and that
journalists have a responsibility to provide accurate, unbiased
information to the public. He has been quoted as saying “A free
press is the citadel of democracy” and “Without a free press,
there can be no democracy, only autocracy.” He also believed
that journalism should be an independent

3.R. K. Narayan - He was an Indian author, most famous for his


works set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi. He
wrote about the role of the journalist in his novel "The Vendor
of Sweets", where the protagonist, Jagan, is a journalist.
Narayan wrote, "Journalism is not just a profession but a
vocation, a duty, a responsibility, a sacred trust."

4.Amitav Ghosh - He is an Indian writer who has written


extensively about the impact of globalization on societies and
cultures. He has written in his book "The Great Derangement"
that "Journalism is vital to democracy, and its role is to hold
power to account and to give voice to the marginalized."

IMPORTANCE OF JOURNALISM
