HISTORY
16th century SUGBU REGION – spanish colonization
24 September 1972 CENTRAL VISAYAS REGION
29 May 2015 the province of Negros Oriental was removed from
Central Visayas to form the NEGROS ISLAND REGION along with
Negros Occidental and its provincial capital, Bacolod City.
9 August 2017 regained Negros Oriental and its capital,
Dumaguete city back into Central Visayas
POPULATION
LANGUAGES
Bantayanon, spoken in Bantayan Islands of Cebu province.
Boholano, a Cebuano dialect spoken in Bohol.
Cebuano, spoken in Cebu, Negros Oriental, Bohol, and
Siquijor. It is the regional lingua franca.
Hiligaynon, spoken in western Negros Oriental.
Porohanon, spoken in Camotes Islands of Cebu province

the name of a place ( Sikuna-Legazpi blood compact )

derived from the Old Cebuano term for "scorched earth" or "great fire".
