Write a 1000-word reflection on the topics discussed in the three-day international webinar on
Global Englishes and Research Conference. Highlight your key take-aways from the webinar.
How do you intend to utilize these in your classroom?

The three-day international webinar on Global Englishes and Research provides a forum
for discussing the latest research and developments in the field of Global Englishes.
For the past three days, we had the opportunity to hear from leading experts in the field,
as well as to participate in interactive sessions and panel discussions. The conference covered a
wide range of topics related to Global Englishes, including its linguistic and cultural diversity, its
role in education, and its impact on global communication.
The conference also provides an opportunity for attendees to present their own research,
share their perspectives and insights, and engage in productive dialogue and collaboration.
We are confident that this conference was valuable and stimulating experience for all
attendees, and we look forward to the contributions and discussions that will take place over the
next few days.
One of the topics discussed in the said conference is Global Englishes. The impact of
Global Englishes in the post-COVID era is likely to be multifaceted and complex. The COVID-
19 pandemic has had a significant impact on global communication, education, and business, and
has accelerated the trend towards greater use of digital technologies for communication and
collaboration.
One impact of global Englishes in the post-COVID era is likely to be an increased use of
English in digital communication. With many people now working and communicating online,
there is likely to be greater use of English as a common language for international

communication. This is due to the fact that, English is the most widely spoken language on the
internet and it's spoken by the majority of people on digital platforms.
Another impact could be the changes in education, as online learning has become more
prevalent, there may be greater opportunities for students to learn and study in English,
regardless of their physical location. This could lead to an increase in the number of people who
are proficient in English, which could further solidify its role as a lingua franca in the post-
COVID era.
Additionally, in the business world, with the increase in teleworking and virtual
meetings, the use of English as a common language for international business is likely to
continue to grow, even after the pandemic is over.
However, it is important to note that the impact of COVID-19 and its aftermath is still
unfolding, and its full impact on Global Englishes is still uncertain. It is likely that there will be
both positive and negative impacts and the effects will vary depending on the location and
context.
Another topic discussed is "From the Philippines to the USA: Teaching ELA to
native speakers”. Teaching English Language Arts (ELA) to native speakers in the United
States can be a challenging yet rewarding experience for a teacher from the Philippines.
One aspect that could be challenging is the cultural and linguistic differences between the
Philippines and the United States. In the Philippines,
English is a second language and is learned and taught primarily through grammar-
translation methods. However, in the United States, English is the dominant language and is
often learned and taught through immersion and communicative approaches. This could mean a
different approach and strategies needed to be adapted to effectively teach ELA to native
speakers in the United States.
Additionally, being a non-native speaker of the language can be a disadvantage in terms
of pronunciation, accent, and idiomatic expressions, which could make it difficult for students to
understand the teacher at times. However, this could also be an advantage, as the teacher can
provide a different perspective on the language and offer insights into the different varieties of

English spoken around the world, which can help students to appreciate the diversity of the
language.
Another aspect that could be challenging is the differences in curriculum and teaching
standards. The Philippines and the United States have different curriculums and standards for
teaching ELA, and a teacher from the Philippines may need to familiarize themselves with these
standards and align their teaching methods to meet them.
However, despite these challenges, teaching ELA to native speakers in the United States
can also be a rewarding experience. The teacher could gain an opportunity to immerse
themselves in a new culture, gain valuable professional experience and broaden their
understanding of the language. They can also impart their knowledge and experiences to their
students, helping to broaden their understanding of the world, and encouraging them to be more
open-minded and accepting of different cultures and languages.
In conclusion, teaching ELA to native speakers in the United States could be a
challenging experience but with proper preparation and adaptation, it can be a valuable and
rewarding one. It would provide an opportunity to gain new experiences, broaden perspectives,
and make a positive impact on students' lives.
Another topic discussed during the conference is "Teaching with the Heart of mind:
The Core of Cambridge International Curriculum”. Teaching with the heart and mind, with
the core of Cambridge International Curriculum, is a holistic and student-centered approach to
education that values both the cognitive and emotional development of students.
One of the main advantages of this approach is that it encourages teachers to tap into
students' emotions, interests, and passions. By teaching with the heart, teachers can create a more
engaging and meaningful learning environment, which can help to motivate and inspire students.
This approach can also encourage critical thinking, creativity and collaboration skills, as well as
positive attitudes towards learning.
Another key element of this approach is teaching with the mind, which emphasizes the
importance of providing students with a strong foundation in knowledge and skills. By teaching

with the mind, teachers can help students to develop a deep understanding of the subject matter,
and to build the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their future studies and careers.
In this context, the Cambridge International Curriculum, as one of the most widely
recognized and respected education frameworks worldwide, emphasizes the integration of both
cognitive and non-cognitive development, and the importance of assessing students' both their
knowledge and skills, and their personal and social development.
By using this approach, a teacher can foster a culture of learning where students are
encouraged to ask questions, seek answers and make sense of the world around them, while at
the same time, the teacher will be able to support students to develop a sense of self-awareness
and responsibility towards their own learning.
Overall, teaching with the heart and mind and using Cambridge International Curriculum
as a guide, promotes a well-rounded education that develops not only cognitive, but also
emotional and personal skills, which will help students to become independent, self-motivated
and responsible learners who will be prepared to meet the challenges of the future with
confidence.
