HADŽIABLAHOVIĆ: The contribution to the flora of Montenegro 9

INTRODUCTION

During floristic investigation in the territory of Montenegro we found

some species which are unknown for Montenegrin flora and some
insufficiently known and rare species.
The most complete data on the flora of Montenegro are given in Hayek’s
''Prodromus Florae Peninsulae Balcanicae'' (1924-1933) and in Rohlena’s
''Conspectus Florae Montenegrinae'' (1942).
The complete review on the floristic and vegetation investigation in
Montenegro was given by Pulević (1980, 1985) and Pulević & Bulić (2004).
Data presented in this work are mostly based on herbarium material that
was collected in the area of Ćemovsko polje (South Montenegro) and
literature sources.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Herbarium material collected during our investigation is deposed in

Republic Institution for the Protection of Nature in Podgorica. Known
distribution of these taxa is shown on the UTM grid of Montenegro.
Nomenclature and taxonomical status of treated taxa are given
conveniently Tutin et al. (1964-1980).
Data about geographical distribution for Europe were given according to
Tutin et al. (1964-1980).

RESULTS

Alliaceae

Allium moschatum L.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Kuće Rakića (UTM CM 59), Chrysopogoni-

Satureion, 8. 8. 1999, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Podgorica,
Dinoša, left bank of the river Cijevna (UTM CM 69), sandy places, 27. 8.
2000, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Podgorica, Dinoško polje
(UTM CM 59), Chrysopogoni-Satureion, alt. c. 50 m, 27. 9. 2003, leg. et det.
S. Hadžiablahović.

According to Stearn (1980: 58) the species is widespread in S. Europe,

extending northwards to Hungary.
Data about the presence of A. moschatum in Montenegro were not given
by Rohlena (1942). Visiani (1842: 33) gave the first records of the species for
the territory of Montenegro - Kotor. The second finding for the territory of
10 Glas. republ. zavoda zašt. prirode 27-28/94-95

Montenegro was given by Pulević & Bulić (1990: 85) - hill Trebjesa around
Nikšić. In our localities the species was presented with a lot of specimen.
New records for Montenegro!

Compositae

Artemisia campestris L.

Montenegro: along the road Podgorica - Tuzi, near Ržanički most (UTM CM
59), Chrysopogoni-Satureion, alt. c. 50 m, 16. 9. 2000, leg. et det. S.
Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: along the road Tuzi - Vuksanlekići (UTM CM
68), 21. 9. 2001, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

According to Tutin (1976: 186) the area of distribution of this species is

most of Europe, but absent from many islands and much of the north.
In our localities, the species forms communities along the road.
New species for Montenegro!

Aster squamatus (Sprengel) Hieron

Montenegro: Podgorica, Block V (UTM CM 59), ruderalis, 16. 9. 1999, leg.

et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Podgorica, Dajbabe (UTM CM 59),
ruderalis, 30. 10. 2004, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

For this Central and South American xenophyte Yeo (1976: 115) states:
‘Near the sea, usually on saline soil. Widely naturalized in S.W. Europe;
recently also in C. & E. Mediterranean region, and still spreading’.
New species for Montenegro!

Centaurea melitensis L.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Dinoško polje (UTM CM 69), Chrysopogoni-

Satureion, alt. c. 50 m, 17. 7. 1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

According to Dostal (1976: 285) area of distribution of this species is S.

Europe.
Rohlena (1942) doesn't give data about the presence of this species in
Montenegro. However, Hayek (1901: 600) gives his presence for ‘Dalmatien:
Dalmatien, Insel Lesina, Cattaro; Hercegovina: Trebinje’. From the
mentioned Hayek’s localities it is clear that, except Croatia and Bosnia and
Herzegovina, the species was known, also, for Montenegro (Cattaro, leg.
Pichler).
HADŽIABLAHOVIĆ: The contribution to the flora of Montenegro 11

In our locality the species is raised together with Centaurea splendens,

Centaurea solstitialis etc. Only one specimen of this species was found!
New record for Montenegro!

Hypochoeris cretensis (L.) Bory & Chaub.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Block V (UTM CM 59), anthropogenic influenced

habitats, alt. c. 50 m, 9. 5. 1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro:
Podgorica, Tološi (UTM CM 59.69), Pinus halepensis park-forest, 15. 5.
1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

It is interesting that Rohlena (1942: 394) cited only one locality of this
species for Montenegro - ‘ad litora pr. Novi Bar (O. Fiedler fide K. MALÝ)‘.
Our findings are located in anthropogenous habitats and there were a lot of
specimens of the species.
New records for Montenegro!

Leontodon taraxacoides (Vill.) Mérat

Montenegro: Tuzi (UTM CM 68), ruderalis, 16. 10. 1998, leg. et det. S.
Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Podgorica, Tuški put (UTM CM 59), ruderalis,
30. 10. 1999, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Lake Skadar,
Gostilj (UTM CM 58), wet meadows, 7. 7. 2000, leg. et det. S.
Hadžiablahović.

According to Finch & Sell (1976: 285) area of distribution of this species
is South Europe.
Rohlena (1942: 396) gave only one locality of this species for the territory
of Montenegro and he was in doubt for this finding - ‘in monte Lovćen
(Tommasini). (Mihi dubius videtur!)‘.
In locality Gostilj in July and August the species was presented with a
numerous specimen.
New records for Montenegro!

Cyperaceae

Carex michelii Host

Montenegro: Podgorica, Dinoško polje (UTM CM 69), Chrysopogoni-

Satureion, alt. c. 50 m, 10. 4. 2000, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

For the first time presence of this species for the territory of Montenegro,
was given by Šmarda (1968: 30) - Skadarsko jezero: Virpazar.
12 Glas. republ. zavoda zašt. prirode 27-28/94-95

Our finding is the second one known in the territory of Montenegro.

New record for Montenegro!

Eleocharis mamillata H. Lindb. fil.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Tuški put, near to the cattle market-place, (UTM

CM 59) in a bog-pool, 4. 6. 1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro:
Podgorica beside spring Mareza (UTM CM 59), 30. 7. 2004, leg. et det. S.
Hadžiablahović.

According to Walters (1980: 283) area of distribution of this species is ‘N.

& C. Europe, extending to N. Ukraine‘. For the territory of all former
Yugoslavia the species was known only for Slovenia (Martinčič & al. 1999:
690).
Our finding is the southernmost point in the area of the species.
New species for Montenegro!

Gramineae

Eleusine tristachya (Lam.) Lam.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Block V (UTM CM 59), ruderalis, 9. 5. 1998, alt. c.

50 m, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Tuzi, Milješ (UTM CM
69), ruderalis, 30. 7. 2003, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

For the first time the species was given by Lakušić, D. & Lakušić, B.
(1998: 171) as a new for the territory of all former Yugoslavia: the Morača
canyon near Bioče, in ruderal vegetation along the road to Podgorica,
limestone.
New records for Montenegro!

Sporobolus indicus (L.) B. Br.

Montenegro: Podgorica, centre of town (UTM CM 59), ruderalis, 27. 7.

1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Podgorica, Block V (UTM
59), ruderalis, 30. 9. 1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

First finding of the species as a new for the territory of all former
Yugoslavia was given by Niketić (1998: 173) - ‘Ulcinj, Ulcinjska plaža,
sandy places’.
On our localities this xenophyte of S. American origin is raised in
vegetation with strong anthropogenic influence.
New records for Montenegro!
HADŽIABLAHOVIĆ: The contribution to the flora of Montenegro 13

Trisetum paniceum (Lam.) Pers.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Block V (UTM CM 59), subnitrophilous places

along to a road, alt. c. 50 m, 15. 5. 1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović;
Montenegro: Tuzi (UTM CM 68), subnitrophilous places along to a road, 28.
5. 2004, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

The species is cited in EUNIS Habitat classification as a member of

Mediterranean subnitrophilous grass communities (E1.61/P-34.81):
‘particularly widespread in Iberia, southern Italy, the Mediterranean Balkans
and Greece where they may cover vast expanses of post-cultural or extensive
pasture lands, also locally represented in southern France and coastal
northern Italy’ (Devillers, P., Devillers-Terschuren, J. and Vander Linden, C.,
February 2002, Electronic version). The species not being given for “Ju” by
Jonsell (Tutin & al. 1980). Not given for territory of former Yugoslavia in
recent Flora’s which treats this territory.
New species for Montenegro!

Vulpia ligustica (All.) Link

Montenegro: Podgorica, Block V (UTM CM 59), in subnitrophilous places

along to a road, alt. c. 50 m, 15. 5. 1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović;
Montenegro: Lake Skadar, Gostilj (UTM CM 58), wet meadows, 7. 7. 2000,
leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović; Montenegro: Tuzi (UTM CM 68),
subnitrophilous places along to a road, 28. 5. 2004, leg. et det. S.
Hadžiablahović.

According to Stace & Cotton (1980: 155) the species is presented in

Europe in Co Cr Ga It Ju Sa Si Tu.
In our localities, the species forming communities along to a roads.
New species for Montenegro!

Leguminosae

Medicago carstiensis Jacq.

Montenegro: Virpazar (UTM CM 47), 6. 4. 2001, leg. Malohodžić, det. S.

Hadžiablahović.

According to Tutin (1968: 154) the species is widespread in Al Au Bu It

Ju.
For the first time for the territory of Montenegro the species was found by
Petrović (2003: 70) on two localities: village Djolaza, meadow next to the
14 Glas. republ. zavoda zašt. prirode 27-28/94-95

brink of underbrush Quercus cerris alt. c. 800 m and village Basha, along to
the road alt. c. 730 m. The both known localities are on Sutorman (Rumija
mt.).
New record for Montenegro!

Iridacaeae

Crocus weldenii Hoppe & Fürnrohr f. lutescens Pulević

Montenegro: Tuzi, hill Dečić (UTM CM 68), Stipo-Salvietum officinalis, alt.

c. 350 m, 16. 2. 1998, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

This very interesting yellow forma of C. weldenii was described by

Pulević (1977: 85) on specimens from Velje Brdo near Podgorica. Later,
Pulević and Bulić (1990: 86) gave new findings in Montenegro: Piperi,
Kopilje field and along to the road Arza - Helmica, near border with Albania.
Our finding represents the continuity in the area of this forma.
New record for Montenegro!

Rosaceae

Pyrus amygdaliformis Vill. f. triloba Bornm.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Milješ (Rastrim), close to the river Cijevna - left

bank (UTM CM 69), 30. 7. 2003, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.

For the territory of Balkan Peninsula Hayek (1927: 750) gave two
taxonomic categories of Pyrus amygdaliformis (f triloba Bornm. and f.
parviflora (Desf.)) without data on their distribution. Mitrushi 1966 (from
Dimitrovski & al. 1974: 154) gives presence of the 'varietas triloba' for
Albania.
Rohlena (1942: 160) cited P. amygdaliformis for the territory of
Montenegro. Also, in Ćemovsko polje there are a lot of specimens of this
species but in above-mentioned locality we found the specimen with 3-lobed
leaves, which probably belongs to the f. triloba Bornm.
New forma for Montenegro!

Rutaceae

Haplophyllum coronatum Griseb.

Montenegro: Podgorica, Dinoško polje (UTM CM 69), Chrysopogoni-

Satureion, alt. c. 50 m, 22. 6. 2002, leg. et det. S. Hadžiablahović.
HADŽIABLAHOVIĆ: The contribution to the flora of Montenegro 15

This species is endemic for South-East part of Balkan Peninsula (Gr Al

Ju). In the territory of all former Yugoslavia the species was known only for
Republic of Macedonia (Mayer & Wraber 1970: 122). Our finding is
northwesternmost point in the area of the species.
New species for Montenegro!
