1. Find the values of x,y,z and w which satisfy the matrix equation
𝑥 − 2𝑦 3𝑥 + 4𝑦 2 4 2 2
[ ] = [ ]
−1 𝑧+𝑤 2𝑧 − 𝑤 −1 5 −5

1 0 0 1
2. If I = [ ] ,C=[ ], Show that (aI + bc)3 = a3 I + 3a2bc.

4. Find A of matrix A = [1 2 −1] by using (i) Adjoint and (ii) Method of
1 1 1
Reduction ( Elementary row transformation).

5. Transform matrix into a reduced row echelon form :

1 2 −1 2
A = [2 5 −2 3]
1 2 1 2

6. Find Rank of the matrix by row echelon form :

1 3 −1 4
A= [ 2 4 3 5]
−1 −2 6 −7

7. There are three electric dealers in a pure competition market who sell radios, Tape
recorders and Television sets. A sell weekly 48 radios,20 tape recorders and 12
television sets; B sells weekly 57 radios,17 tape recorders and 15 television sets, and
C sells weekly 35 radios,22 tape recorders and 18 television sets. Using matrices,
calculate their individual profits, if the net revenue on a radio is Rs. 50, on a tape
recorder is Rs.75 and on a television set Rs.250.
8. A firm purchases two machines at a cost of Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Both
machines have a lifetime of four years and have Rs 5000 as salvages values at the end
of four years. Find depreciation of each machine for each year using matrix notation
if
(i) Both are depreciated by sum of the year digit method
(ii) Both are depreciated by straight line method
(iii) One is depreciated by sum of the years digit method and another is depreciated
by straight line method.

9. An amount of Rs. 6,50,000 is invested in three investments at rates of 6%, 8% and 9%

per annum respectively. The total annual income is Rs. 48,000. The income from the
third investment is Rs. 6000 more than the income from the second investment. Using
matrix algebra, determine the amount of each investment. (using Matrix Inverse
Method)

10. A company produces three products every day. Their total production on a certain
day is 45 tons. It is found that the production of third product exceeds the production
of first product by 8 tons while the total production of first and third product is twice
the production of second product. Determine the production level of each product
using Cramer’s method.

11. Food I have 3 units of Vitamins A, 9 units of Vitamin B and 12 units of Vitamin C.
Food II has 6, 9 and 15 units respectively and Food III has 9.0.9 units respectively. 33
units of Vitamin A, 27 units of B and 60 of C are required. Find the amount of three
foods that will provide exactly these amounts. (Use Gauss Jordan Elimination
method).

12. Solve by Matrix Inversion Method

x-3y+4z = 3 ; 2x – 5y + 7z =6 ; 3x – 8y + 11z = 11

13. Solve by Cramer’s Method

2x – 3y – 4z = 29 ; -2x +5y – z = -15 ; 3x -y +5z = -11

14. Solve by Using Elementary row operations

(i) 2x – 5y +7z ; x – 3y + 4z = 3 ; 3x – 8y + 11z = 11 (Ans No solution)

(ii) 2x – y + 3z = 9 ; x + y + z = 6 ; x – y + z = 2
(iii) x + y + z =6 ; 5x + 3y + 2z = 18 ; 4x + 6y + 7z = 36 ( Infinitely many solution).

15. Given the following transaction matrix, Find the gross output to meet the final
demand of 200 units of agriculture and 800 units of Industry.

Producing
Sector Purchasing Sector
Agriculture Industry Final Demand
Agriculture 300 600 100
Industry 400 1200 400

16. Suppose the inter-industry flow of the products of two industries is given as under:

Consumption

Domestic Gross
X Y Demand output
Production
X 30 40 50 120
Production
Y 20 10 30 60
