The Four Dragons

Hello everyone, today I’m going to be telling you the story of the four dragons.

Once upon a time, in China. There were no lakes or rivers, only the Eastern Sea where the four dragons lived.
There was the black dragon, there was the yellow dragon, there was the long dragon, and there was the pearl
dragon. They loved to fly out from the sea, into the sky.

One day, when the dragons are having fun, the pearl dragon went, “Dragons, Dragons, quick! Come and look
over here!” said the pearl dragon.

The other three dragons flew to the pearl dragon and they looked down, at where the pearl dragon was pointing
to. Down on earth, many people were putting out fruits and vegetables, and they were burning incense sticks.
Audience, do you all know what they were doing? Yes, they were praying.

There was a gray-haired woman, praying to the god of heaven to send rain as soon as possible. So they can eat
and farm again. The four dragons who saw them, feeling so sorry for them. So they thought of a way to help those
people. Think, think, and think, hmmm…. Finally, the yellow dragon had a clever idea.

“Dragons, dragons, how about we fly to the heavenly palace, and beg the Jade Emperor to send rain?” ask the
yellow dragon. The other dragons like the idea.

The four dragons arrived at the heavenly palace. Up there in the heavenly palace, sat the Jade Emperor. With his
gray long beard hanging from his chin, he sat upon his golden throne. The Jade Emperor was very powerful. He
was not happy to see, that the dragons have come to heavenly palace without his permission.

“Dragons, dragons, why did you rushing into the heavenly palace?” ask the Jade Emperor.

“There has not been rain for a long time, Your Majesty. I beg you to send rain down to earth as soon as possible,”
the Long Dragon answered.

“Alright, I’ll send rain tomorrow. You go back first,” said the Jade Emperor.

The four dragons went happily back. But ten days passed, and no, not a single drop of rain fell. Seeing all this, the
four dragons knew that the jade emperor was a selfish emperor. The dragons, they knew they could only rely on
themselves, to help the hungry people. Hmmm… how could they help those hungry people? The pearl dragon
had a smart solution.

“Dragons, dragons, there’s so much water in the sea! Why don’t we scoop the water, and spray the water down to
earth?” said the pearl dragon. The four dragons do the idea, even if they knew the risks.

The four dragons flew high, and began to spray water. The water fell down on earth, just like rain. While all this
happened, the Jade Emperor was furious. It’s because the dragons bring rain without his permission. the jade
emperor ordered to catch the dragons, and punish them with laying four mountains upon the four dragons, so they
can't move or escape.

But even then, the dragons did not regret their actions. They turned themselves into four great rivers. The black
dragon became Hei Long Jiang, far south. The yellow dragon became Huang He, in central China. The long
dragon became Chang Jiang, further south. And the pearl dragon became Zhu Jiang, further north.
