1. What is the subject in a sentence? Explain and give an example.

The subject is the noun that’s doing or being something. Let’s look at an example.

The dog ran to greet his friend.

What is the sentence about? The dog. But the better question is, “Who or what ran?” The
dog. And there we have the subject of the sentence.

2. What is the verb in a sentence? Explain and give an example.

A verb is a doing word that shows an action, an event or a state. A sentence may either
have a main verb, a helping verb or both. No sentence can be completed without a verb.

John sold his pencil to Martha and then went home.

The verbs in a sentence tell us what the subject did in the sentence

3.What does it mean that there is agreement between the subject and the verb?
Explain in detail.

Subject-verb agreement means that a subject and its verb must be both singular or both
plural: a singular subject takes a singular verb. A plural subject takes a plural verb.

4.Provide one example of a sentence with correct subject-verb agreement and explain
why.
The cat drinks his water every day. “Cat” is a singular subject; “drinks” is a singular present
tense verb.

5.Provide one example of a sentence with incorrect subject-verb agreement and

explain why.

One of my friends like to cook Italian food. Error: One is singular, and like is plural.
Correction: One of my friends likes to cook Italian food.
