A. Plot
In this short story, a young boy from an asteroid-like planet meets a man who has crash-landed in a
desert. Over the course of a few days, the little prince tells the narrator about his life on the tiny
planet.A young prince is sent to a series of planets, each with a different grown-up who has been
reduced to a function. He meets a king who requires obedience but has no subjects until he arrives, and
a conceited man who wants nothing from the prince but flattery. A little prince visits a planet inhabited
by a man who follows orders that require him to light a lamp each evening and put it out each morning,
even though his planet spins so fast that dusk and dawn both occur once every minute. The prince then
encounters a geographer, who knows nothing about his own planet because flowers are ephemeral. On
Earth the prince meets a snake and a flower, who tell him that people lack roots. He finds it depressing
to learn that his beloved rose is not, as she claimed, unique in the universe. A fox tells him that if he
tames the fox, then they will be unique and a source of joy to each other.
B. Theme
The Little Prince mainly shows adult narrow-mindedness as a characteristic. The narrator creates a clear
difference between how adults and children experience the world in the first chapter. Adults, in his
opinion, are dull, superficial, unimaginative, and stubbornly convinced that their particular point of view
is the only one that can exist. In comparison, he portrays kids as creative, open-minded, and conscious
of and sensitive to the wonder and beauty of the universe.
