Section 1: Plagiarism

Introduction:
The word plagiarism itself is more familiar among students mostly international students and also local students. Credit should be provided as it is due, which means colleges are the main sources of information and these informations belongs to different people, so when we use such information we are responsible to give credit to real authors who own such ideas. Its really difficult to give a clear picture about plagiarism in a line, but the one given below somewhat relate to what plagiarism in a line, Plagiarism is using others ideas and words without clearly acknowledging the source of that information.

History:
In dictionaries they have tried to give different angle for explaining what plagiarism is like wrongful appropriation, close imitation or purloining and publication of another authors thoughts, ideas or expression and representing them as their own ideas or work. A little history about how the idea of plagiarism generated, it is merged from Latin word plagiarius(kidnapping). Ben Johnson an English Renaissance dramatist introduced or to be exact transferred the word into English by 1601 as plagiarism. for international students everything appears to be new which includes the culture, the way of living, lifestyle and of course the most important thing is education which is totally different from their home countries and which includes the most critical problem dealing with plagiarism. For international students everything appears to be new which includes the culture, the way of living, lifestyle and of course the most important thing is education which is totally different from their home countries and which includes the most critical problem dealing with plagiarism.

General Body:
The scope of study is important as much as the proper conduct of students. As per Norman Creaney, plagiarism is a form of academic and professional misconduct and distinguishes between plagiarism and copyright violation. Norman words are true, but the copyright violation cannot be spoken in academics because students always gather ideas and knowledge from many references and materials. But what Shinichi Evans explained is completely acceptable, according to him only some aspects of copyright laws are affected by such misconducts. In academics plagiarism is not only misconducts there are also other means like cheating, fabrication and facilitating academic dishonesty which is explained by Jason D. So to my understanding plagiarism affects copyright laws to some extent as knowledge is passed on to others through generations and all misconduct does not fall under plagiarism activity.

International students and Impact of plagiarism:

The most worrying factor for the international students is plagiarism; it has an adverse effect on students. Because of plagiarism they even started failing instead on reducing marks and even the worst cases happened is student has expelled from their institutions. International students because of lack of academic knowledge has suffered a lot because of plagiarism and hence it is advisable for providing all valuable academic backgrounds and guides by the institution to the students.[1] A fear must be indulged in everyone that such activities will lead to expelled from the institution. [6] Reason for the rise in Plagiarism activities: There are various reasons which revolve around a student which causes a rise in plagiarism activities, among them only few of them are described briefly below, One of the most important reasons is increasing pressure imposed on students due to of taking paid work, most of students find it really hard to complete any assignment modules within the given period of time and hence at these situations students are tempted to finish of the assignment by just copy and paste from the largest source internet, by doing these students are blindfolded of causing plagiarism. The fact is student thoughts are such a way that the plagiarism for them is a reasonable risk free way out of difficulties. [3] Academic understanding is one another important factor, if we take an example of a student doing 3 year degree course, he will be completing his 2 years of study in his home

country and will be completing the final year in any of the reputed institutions in UK, mostly he will be doing dissertation and his time is limited. Within this short period of time he/she will not be able to learn one more module where it explains plagiarism and steps necessary to avoid plagiarism activities. Lack of time with academic understanding is the things in short when summarising.

Deterring, Detecting and Combating with Plagiarism:

An institutional approach for detecting plagiarism has been in place and the idea is from USA and it is called turnitin, a web based program where this program runs a comparison search in the entire database and will provide a result telling how much of contents have been copied directly without keeping any reference. As a result of a survey, it is clearly understood that detecting some activities has been done is tougher than performing deterring, which can be related to a proverb Prevention is better than cure, so institution started trying more different approaches of understanding the process of deterring. Comparing the staff count required for these two process, it has been proved that the strength is very less for deterring process than detecting process and hence employing a practice of skilled staffs and good approach for deterring will help prevent students from involving into activities like plagiarism. The first step is to provide a module or course work at the start of their studies which should include a detailed study of what plagiarism is and its impact on international students under the name of Study Skills. Induction is one other good method which can be used along with the above method. Referencing is another method used, there are mainly two areas where referencing is most compulsory, first one if an entire line or sentence is taken from any other source and which belongs to other authors it should be given in Double Quotes. [5] The second one is paraphrasing, which means taking ideas of some other authors and putting that into the assignment in own words, but still it has to be referenced in the reference section. [4]

Conclusion:
As plagiarism activities are mostly seen in international students, the best and effective way of dealing it is by providing sufficient knowledge about the donts and dos of doing an assignment or course work, mainly letting the students know after effects of doing plagiarism. The institutions must take responsibility in making sure every student who

intends to study must have the knowledge about illegal activities. Also it is healthier for the institutions to teach skill required for avoiding plagiarism such as citing, note-taking, quoting and paraphrasing. It is always better to take the step initially than dealing with these activities at later stages and this will also help to prevent students from falling into such activities, this in turn helps international students to complete their studies without any difficulties and irregularities in their academics.
