Abo Alfadil Building in Al-Steen Street
Project: Khartoum- Algraif garb
Plot:484 —Block:Hara 4
Many Owners
Analysis and Design by: Dr. Taha Elnour Ishage
Eng. Rammah Ahmed
March 2021Preview:
Pursuant to the request from the representative of the above mentioned Project to
form a committee to conduct a structural analysis and design review to their concrete
building and to carry a comprehensive structural check to the design drawings, and to
check whether the building with Ground and other six Floors can withstand the total
loads and transfer them to the foundation safety or not, and to recommend any
corrective or preventive actions if required.
Scope of Work:
The purpose of the study is to investigate the presence of ultimate confidence in
the safety and adequacy of the structural elements capacity of the building and the
maximum ultimate design loads the building can carry, and to check the capability
of the structure to safety transfer the loads to the foundation with safe and
adequate columns.
Submittals:
1. Architectural drawings: Design drawings.
2. Structural drawings: Design drawings.
Methodology:
The building was modeled according to the submitted drawings, all dimensions were
checked for consistency, and reinforcement stated in the design drawings and actually
used was entered in the model. Material property was collected and defined to the
model elements and members according to what has been stated in the drawings.
British Standards Spread sheets and ETABS &SAFE software were used for analysis
and design. British standard and Euro codes were adopted.
Specifications, standards and programs
1. BS 8110-97 used for design and verifications of the results.
2. BS 6399 Part 1 1996 for loading.
3. ETABS 2018 & SAFE 2016 software.Method of Analysis and Loading
Structural behavior of the system was captured through a complete three dimensional
model of structural analysis by using British Standards Spread sheets. Matrix stiffness
and finite elements methods are the tools that the program uses during the analysis.
The design loads used to analyze the building are adopted in accordance with the
BS6399 considering material properties and building utilization. Load combinations
for design assessment purposes were chosen according to BS 8110-97. Ultimate load
combination was used.
Loads Considered:
The building was checked according to following types of loads:
1. Dead load of 2.0 KN/m2 as finishes (Sand bedding, Ceramic and 4.5 cm mortar).
2. Self weight of the structure.
3, Walls as 4.5 kN/m2 and 13.5 kN/m for line wall of 25cm thickness brick walls with
wall density 18.0 kN/m3.
4, Live load of 1.5 KN/m2 is used for residential building.
5. Live load of 3.0 kN/m2 on staircase.
6. Concrete density 24kKN/m3 and gravitational acceleration 9.81m/s2.
7. Soil Bearing pressure 200 kN/m2 was used.
Materials and Load Combinations:
Concrete:
Columns + Slabs + Walls & Foundation : C 20/25MPA_
Steel for Reinforcement:
The steel used is: St 460 MPA and 250MPA for stirrups.
Ultimate Limit State: For BS 8110-97 Code here:
DL: Dead Load. (Includes self weight, finishes and walls)
LL: Live Load.Table of Contents
