linked to global macro trends such as safety, security, and energy.

Honeywell is divided to 4 main divisions:

Aerospace
Aerospace products and services used globally on virtually every commercial and business aircraft as well as
for defense and space applications include: integrated avionics, engines, aircraft equipment, systems, and
service solutions.

Automation and Control Solutions


Everything to do with environmental controls, life safety, security, sensing, scanning, and mobility products,
as well as building and process solutions. Equipment which is used in 150 million homes, 10 million
buildings, 5,000 industrial facilities, and hundreds of gas and electric utilities worldwide.

Performance Materials and Technologies


Developing and manufacturing advanced materials and process technologies such as drugs and medicines,
oil, gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, petrochemicals, refrigerants and biofuels.

Transportation Systems1
Transportation Systems is a leading provider of world-class technologies and solutions to automakers, their
suppliers, and consumers. From fuel-saving and emission-reducing turbochargers to safety-enhancing brake
products such as disc brake pads, drum brake linings and aftermarket brake products marketed under the

Honeywell jobs are mostly of technical nature. They include texts related to company’s products
(datasheets, installation instructions, case studies etc.) and marketing texts (press releases, etc.).
General press articles also come up frequently.

B. Tasks Performed depending on the information included in HO


Translation and Editing
Translation
Translation is a core step in the localization process. Translation should be carried out via the
TM/CAT tool specified in this document, with a good attention to: accuracy of translation,
language conventions (i.e. grammar, spelling), compliance with defined and generally-accepted
terminology and style. Other types of requirements are noted in this document if any.
Editing
Editing should be done in 2 steps:
Revision – comparing the source and target text to identify errors of meaning
Review – checking the target text to identify errors of form
For editing of translation from multiple translators, an editor is expected to perform
harmonization of the style and tone, and to ensure consistency in the terminology and
expression used in the translation.
Lionbridge expects final language quality after editing, which also indicates no issues left
(without advanced notice to Lionbridge).

If one agency is used for Translation and Editing:


1. This step should be performed by a linguist other than the original translator unless agreed
otherwise with Lionbridge in writing.

Proofreading/Converted Format Review (CFR)

This is a check in an intermediate (pre-DTP and pre-Engineering) format for


 typographical errors,
 incorrect hyphenation and
 residual typos, as well as
 improper formatting affecting the language quality.
All corrections should be implemented in the pre-conversion files used for translation and
editing, and the files will be converted again for the DTP or Engineering tasks.

Language Sign-off (LSO)

This is a check in the final format (after DTP and engineering processes) of the files for
typographical errors, incorrect hyphenation and residual typos, as well as improper formatting
affecting the language quality. A project/customer specific checklist might be provided to
support the quality assurance effort.

Implementation Guidelines:
1. Please implement all changes in the unclean files.

2. ALSO clearly annotate the PDF with ALL changes, so our non-linguist team can safely
implement all changes in the Formatted files (e.g. FrameMaker). (Alternatively: update
clean files)

3. Please don’t localize English Symbol Text. The text should be kept in English. If you see a
translated form in the PDF, please annotate it in the PDF file and fix the issue in the bilingual
files.

NOTE: The person implementing changes from the PDF annotation will NOT be a linguist and
will NOT make a decision on grammar or linguistic issues. So please make very sure that your
comments are clear and easy to understand, and that the source and target strings (what to
change, and what to change it into) are clearly indicated.

Language Quality Inspection (LQI)


For translators:
Please note that an LQI may be performed on your translation. LQI schedule and details will be
communicated separately.
Lionbridge LQIs are done via our LQI online system accessible through the Lionbridge Service
Partners portal.
The LQI feedback will be available in your LQI To DO Lists\Translator area on SPP.
LQI corrections need to be reviewed and implemented GLOBALLY throughout all relevant files.
Please refer to the LQI Online User Guide, “Translator TO DO List” section for more information.

For LQI Specialists:


Lionbridge LQIs are done via our LQI online system accessible through the Lionbridge Service
Partners portal.
If you are not familiar with the LQI Methodology and the LQI Online tool, please make sure to
go through the LQI Online User Guide and the LQI Online QRG, both available from the
Lionbridge Tools & Processes section on SPP.
Jobs awaiting your inspection will be available in your LQI TO DO Lists\LQI Specialist area on
SPP.

Remember that there usually is more than one correct way to translate a segment.
 Please respect the Translator's choice and make an effort to distinguish between actual
errors and preferential variations.
 Any variation of a grammatically correct translation, where the instructions have been
duly followed, and the target text convey the meaning of the source text are considered
preferential variations.
 Preferential variations are not counted as errors and will not affect the LQX score or the
Evaluation results. However, this category is included as an option to give the LQI
Specialist the opportunity to suggest improvements to the overall translation.
 If exactly the same error is repeated, please enter it into the form only once and choose
Yes in the Repeat/Global column.
 Make sure to always enter a comment in English in the Error Description column.

C. General Linguistic Instructions

Legacy segments
 101% matches are NOT part of the scope.
They usually are pre-translated and locked.
 100% matches: should always be REVIEWED
 Fuzzy matches: any match below 100% needs to be FULLY EDITED

General rules:
 Please do not translate product names.
 Please do not translate Honeywell divisions, Business Units names or branches.
 In case of inconsistency between reference materials please contact Lionbridge team.

4. Linguistic Assets
A. TM Information
General information about Translation Workspace is available in the Translation Workspace
section on SPP.
You can access Translation Memories from https://translate.translationworkspace.com
Make sure you link to the appropriate TM named in the HO email, and please check if you
have received tokens necessary to access it.
Please use the WORKING TM during translation.
Please use the REVIEW TM during editing.
Please ONLY use the FINAL TM to upload files which are final version for each HO.

B. Reference Material
Location of any project specific reference materials will be provided at the time of HO.

C. Glossaries
All relevant glossaries are available from Translation Workspace servers and linked to the TM in
which you will be working. You can also download them from TMS Reference tab.

Where to find it

Annotated LTB output reports are a required part of the deliverable for all the projects.
Before sending the LTB output report back to the Lionbridge project team, please review
carefully each of the entries in the LTB output report, entering under the Ignore? column of the
report:
 Ignore to identify entries that are not real errors and therefore don't need to be
corrected in the translation.
 Mark to identify entries that do need to be corrected or verified in the translation.

Remember: ONLY USE either Ignore or Mark. Never use Yes/No, Check/No, Yes/Fixed, etc. If
different terms are used, Lionbridge will not be able to run follow-up macros on your reports.

Once you have finalized commenting the LTB output reports, filter under the Ignore? column by
“Mark” and implement all the relevant corrections in your unclean files before your delivery to
Lionbridge.

LTB Regression Check


If you want to check that all errors have been resolved you can run the LTB again after all rows
have been completed with either Ignore or Mark.
Please run Linguistic ToolBox again using the previous report as an exclusion file: Enable the
Filter using previous report checkbox in the LTB Report settings.

This causes LTB to exclude any entries it would write to the new report if they are marked Ignore
in the previous report. Please deliver both reports.

NOTE: For information on how to work with the Linguistic ToolBox output reports with the LTB
Helper, please refer to the LTB Helper Quick User Guide in the Help folder of your LTB
installation (typically at this location: C:\Users\User_Name\Documents\MyLTB\Help).

C. Query management during the project


 Please send your queries via email to LL at joanna.telus@lionbridge.com unless
instructed otherwise at HO stage
 Please translate each query related string/topic to the best of your abilities and do NOT
leave any marker (???, XXX, ///) in the text.
 Please research on your own prior to querying, to provide a good background and
explanation to your question.
 Please use a professional register when phrasing the query and avoid using comments
that are inappropriate for the customer to see.
 Do not wait until the end of the job to raise queries (i.e. do not send queries along with
your delivery but raise them in a timely manner during translation stage). All queries
should be logged in as they arise.
 If there are queries still unanswered close to delivery time, please inform the Language
Lead and Project Manager immediately. Any unanswered queries should be re-sent
together with the deliverables. However, the goal is to deliver a finished product
without open issues.

D. Deliverables to Lionbridge
1. Clean file(s)

4. Signed checklist/sign-off sheet where applicable

E. Known Issues
1. Source files received from client are very often poor quality, this may often cause some
segmentation problems, should you notice format related issues please contact PM. If the

source contains linguistic errors please do not copy them in the translation. If in doubt,
please contact the Language Lead.

2. In case of terminology conflicts between the TM, the glossary or any other reference
material please contact the Language Lead.

this task.
