Raise the vehicle
General
Disconnect the battery
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the right front wheel
Remove the right wheel arch liner
Remove the ancillary drive belts
Remove the access plug

Fit the crankshaft TDC locking pin (Mot. 1489)


Turn the crankshaft until it touches the TDC locking pin

Remove the crankshaft pulley


Remove the crankshaft locking pin
Fit the special tool to support the engine (Mot. 1453)

Remove the right-hand engine support (A, B, C)

Temporarily fit the crankshaft pulley bolt and spacer


Turn the crankshaft clockwise until just before TDC for cylinder 1

Fit the crankshaft TDC locking pin (Mot. 1489)

Timing belt: removal/installation


General

Align the timing marks


Loosen the tensioner pulley nut
Remove the timing belt
Remove the tensioner pulley

Installation
IMPORTANT: Degrease the crankshaft and crankshaft pulley mating faces
Fit the tensioner pulley
Fit the timing belt clockwise, starting at the crankshaft gearwheel
Align the timing marks on the timing belt with the marks on the gearwheels
Engines fitted without eccentric tensioner:
Push the tensioner pulley against the timing belt
Tighten the tensioner pulley nut finger-tight
Remove the crankshaft locking tool (Mot. 1489)
Tension the timing belt with the special tool (Mot. 1501)

Timing belt: removal/installation


General

Use a torque wrench to adjust the timing belt tension (10 Nm)
Fit the tensioning tool (Mot. 1135-01)

Fit the tension gauge (Mot. 1505 (Mot. 1715))


Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise until the special tool reads: (160 ± 10 Hz)
Tighten the tensioner pulley nut (50 Nm)
Turn the engine 2 rotations clockwise

Check that the locking pin can be inserted and removed (Mot. 1489)

Timing belt: removal/installation


Tension
General the timing belt with the special tool (Mot. 1501)
Use a torque wrench to adjust the timing belt tension (10 Nm)
The tension is set when the tension gauge indicates a value of: (160 ± 10 Hz)
Engines fitted with eccentric tensioner:
Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise until the pointer is positioned as shown

Tighten the tensioner (25 Nm)


Remove the crankshaft locking tool (Mot. 1489)
Turn the engine 2 rotations clockwise
Check that the locking pin can be inserted and removed (Mot. 1489)
Check the tensioner marks align

Repeat the procedure if the tension marks are misaligned


All vehicles:
Refit the timing belt upper cover

Refit the timing belt lower cover

Refit the plug

Lock the crankshaft


Use a screwdriver

Refit the crankshaft pulley
General (30 Nm + 100° ± 5°)
Fit the ancillary drive belt
Refit the engine support (A = 62 Nm ; B = 21 Nm ; C = 8 Nm)

Remove the engine support bar (Mot. 1453)


Refit the engine lower cover
Refit the right wheel arch liner
Refit the front right wheel
Reconnect the battery earth cable

Torque settings
Timing belt tensioner:
Engines fitted without eccentric tensioner: (10 Nm)
Engines fitted with eccentric tensioner: (25 Nm)
Tensioner pulley: (50 Nm)
Crankshaft pulley:
Stage 1: (30 Nm)
Stage 2: (100° ± 5°)
Engine support: (A = 62 Nm ; B = 21 Nm ; C = 8 Nm)
