CRUSELL THREE PROGRESSIVE CLARINET DUETS No. 1 inF One of the greatest virtuosi of his time, Bernhard Hentic Crusell, born 1775 in Nystad (Finland), died 1838 in Stockholm, began his career as a military musician. At the age of sixteen he moved to Stockholm where he joined the Royal Orchestra to King Gustav III. In 1808 he was appointed Master of the Royal Orchestra, and in 1837 was awarded the Gold Medal of the Swedish Academy. Crusell studied composition in Paris and Berlin. His clarinet works comprise 3 Concertos, a Concertante for Clarinet, Horn and Bassoon, 3 Quartets and smaller works. His experience and know- ledge of the clarinet enabled him to exploit both instruments to the full in these delightful duets which constitute an important addition to the repertoire of both the student and the accomplished player.
