Underline the answers with appropriate reporting verbs.

Read the two paraphrases of the original text and highlight statements that best describe the
paraphrases.

Original excerpt:

The United States and Japan are similar when it comes to transforming industrial economies
to knowledge and information-based service economies while manufacturing their products
externally to low wage countries. In a knowledge and information-based economy, knowledge
and information are the key ingredients in creating wealth.

Paraphrase 1:

The United States and Japan are the same when it comes to changing industrial economies
to knowledge and information-based service economies as the manufacturing of their
products shifts to low wage countries. In a knowledge and information-based economies,
knowledge and information-based service are the focus in economic growth (Laudon &
Laudon 2002).

Paraphrase 2:

Evolving economies from industrial-based to knowledge and information-based service is a

similarity that both the United States and Japan share as their manufacturing shifts to
countries where wages are low. The profit growth of knowledge and information-based
economy must focus on the knowledge and information factors (Laudon & Laudon, 2002).
