Sulfamethoxazole 800 mg and Trimethoprim 160 mg

It is used in the infections caused by susceptible bacteria, particularly those of the urinary,
respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts. It is used to treat nocardiosis and is usually the
drug of choice for the management of Pneumocystis pneumonia.

Indications/Uses
Urinary tract infections,

 every 12 hours for 10-14 days; BID


 This medicine is generally used for a period of 10-14 days for urinary tract infections, 

Adult Dosage:  800/160 mg Tablet: One (1) tablet every 12 hours after meals.
400 mg/80 mg capsule: one (1) to two (2) capsule every 12 hours after meals or as
prescribed by the physician.

 WARNING:

 Special Precautions
 Cotrimoxazole should not be given to patients with history of sensitivity to it or to
sulphonamide or trimethoprim and to patients with actual or possible folate deficiency,
during pregnancy, and in patients receiving trimethoprim.
 Take it with food.
 Limit drinking alcohol with Jenetrol.
 Store between 15-30°C. Protect from light.

 Hypersensitivity to other components, premature, newborn babies,
hematological disorder, megaloblastic anemia, lactation and avoid in
patients receiving oral anticoagulants.
 Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. Do not chew them.
 Missed dose: If you forget to take your dose, take it as soon as you
remember. But, if it is nearly time for your next dose, take the next dose
at the right time. Do not take extra doses to make up for a forgotten
dose.

 Finish the course: It is important to take the whole course of
antibiotics for the number of days your doctor has told you to. You
should start to get better after taking co-trimoxazole for a few days. If
you do not feel better or get more unwell, contact your doctor.

You should not use Jenetrol Tablet for conditions or symptoms for which it was not prescribed.
Do not give Jenetrol Tablet to other people, even if they have the same conditions or symptoms
that you have. The use of this medicine without the advice of a doctor may cause harm.
Interactions:
Folate inhibitors (eg, methotrexate), anticoagulants, ACE inhibitors,
angiotensin II antagonists, K+-sparing diuretics, phenytoin,
hypoglycaemics, ciclosporin, procainamide, amantadine, lamivudine,
zidovudine, pyrimethamine, digoxin, thiazides, other drugs that cause
hyperkalaemia, dapsone, azathioprine, folinic acid.

Side effects

 Nausea (feeling sick) or vomiting, Diarrhoea, Allergic reaction such as skin


rash, itching, swelling of the lips, face, and mouth or difficulty breathing
