See www.can-blast.com for more details. ANFO Tanks Pressurized vessels used for loading AN-FO (Ammonium nitrate-fuel oil mixture). The AN-FO mixture is forced out of the pressurized holding tank and propelled down a length of semi-conductive loading hose into the bore hole. See www.can-blast.com for more details. Semi-Conductive Loading Hose limits the build-up of static electricity when pneumatically loading bulk explosives or cartridge explosives. Our hose is well known in the Blasting Industry for its quality, lack of coil memory, and cold weather operation. See Sections 4.0 of this manual for more details. Aluminum Hose Connectors Aluminum hose connectors are used to attach the semi- conductive loading hose to the pneumatic cartridge loader body or ANFO tanks. Each vessel is designed, registered, manufactured, tested and certified to the latest edition of the “A.S.M.E. code, section VilI”. Our pressure vessels also meet the requirements of the O.H.S.A. and regulations for Mines and Mining Plants, PART VI “ EXPLOSIVES”. Each vessel is bolted to a three legged stainless steel stand. A stainless steel manifold provides a compact package with long life operation. A check valve located inside the manifold prevents the blow back of product into the regulator. The loading hose is quickly connected to the loader by a cam and groove style connector. The ANFO Charger uses a semi-conductive loading hose with an inside diameter of 5/8, 3/4, or 1” (16mm, 19mm, 25mm). The semi-conductive loading hose and hose connector are purchased separately. ‘Con-Blast servicing the global mining industry since 1970. Manual Revision 3.0 - 2016 ¢- CAN-BLAST 2001 INC. Manual Rev: 4 Cy CAN-BLAST 2002 INC, _D&stston Remote Operation ano Tank Visit wow.can-blast.com Release Date: 2002 3.0 SAFETY - CONTROL OF STATIC ELECTRICITY: Excerpt from the ISEE blasters handbook In the pneumatic loading of small-particle bulk blasting agents such as ANFO, it is possible to generate sufficient static electricity to cause the premature initiation of both electric and non electric detonators. ‘Small electrical charges can build up during the contact-separation process of the prills as they are pneumatically conveyed through the loading device. The electric currents generated are extremely small and do not constitute a hazard to blasting operations if not allowed to accumulate. However, if these charges become stored and discharge suddenly, sufficient energy may be available to detonate an explosive detonator. At the least, the operator may be painfully shocked. Laboratory tests have shown that voltages greater then 30,000 volts (and even as high as 60,000 volts) can be generated. There are three points in a pneumatic loading operation at which electrical energy can be store: (1) on the operator: (2) on the blasting agent loader and accessory equipment; and (3) in the borehole and on the detonator leg wires. If a semi-conductive path is maintained between these points and ground, the energy is dissipated before it can build up to dangerous levels. In a pneumatic loading system this semi-conductive path for the bleed off of potentially dangerous static electricity can only be assured if a semi- conductive loading hose in good condition is used. It is absolutely necessary that the loading hose has a resistance of 1,000 - 10,000 Ohms per meter and a total resistance of less than 2 Mohms per total loading hose length. The semi conductive hose must do two things: (1) it must be conductive enough to harmlessly dissipate static electricity generated during the pneumatic loading of ANFO through properly grounded equipment; and (2) it also must have enough resistance so as not to provide a low resistance path in which hazardous levels of static current can reach the detonators. It is imperative that all pneumatic loading systems have semi-conductive loa hose and grounded equipment that satisfy these requirements. The potential for serious injury exists. 7), DO follow the charger grounding procedure as recommended by your employer. 8) DO make sure there are no sharp bends or kinks in the loading hose that might impede the flow of product. 9) DO keep the loader free of foreign matter build up. 10) DO use water pressure only for dislodging obstructions in the loading hose and for cleaning out the charger. 11) D0 inspect to be sure no product has been left in charger or loading hoses after use. 12) DO make sure no traces of explosives remain in or on the equipment before performing repair work. 13) DO be sure all parts have cooled before placing the equipment back in service if repair has involved heating. 14) DO NOT use ANFO product that has clumped due to moisture, as it will clog the charger system, and or loading hose. 15) DO NOT disconnect the semi-conductive loading hose from the charger till all tank pressure has been released. 16) DO NOT use input air (mine air) pressure exceeding 100 P.S.I (690Kpa) ‘Can-Blast servicing the global mining industry since 1970. Loading hose with semi-conductive or anti-static properties such as this, are required by safety authorities when pneumatically loading bulk explosives such as ANFO. Our loading hose product line complies with many mining safety authority regulations around the world by having an electrical resistance of 1,000 - 10,000 Ohms per meter and a total resistance of less than 2 Mohms per total loading hose length. Our loading hose is manufactured with a continuous molded yellow stripe to differentiate it from other non-semi-conductive hoses. Great care should be taken to avoid kinking and flattening of hose during use, and for storage it should be coiled to a diameter 4 feet (1.2 m) or greater. LD. 0.0. Confirm that all air pressure is released from the tank and hoses. (CLEANING AND STORING THE LOADING HOSE ‘The recommended practice for cleaning loading hose is flushing with water. Since the basic ingredient of the hose is polyethylene, use of solvents, abrasives, or routering with metallic objects will weaken the hose and substantially shorten useful life. ‘When storing the loading hose great care should be taken to avoid kinking and flattening of hose during re-rolling. The loading hose should be colled to a diameter of 4 feet (1.2 m) or greater. AIR FITTING AND TUBING — Maintenance Steel pipes and fitting on the charger should be free of foreign material, in sound condition, and tightly connected to avoid alr leakage. These lines should be inspected periodically for integrity and blown out to remove any foreign material buildup. Check inlet screens and pilot pressure filter. (CHECK VALVE The check vaive only requires to be tested to ensure proper operation. 1. Totest, charge up the tank to about 40 PSI. 2. Close the main air supply ball valve on the manifold. 3. Turn off the source of mine air and carefully bleed off the air in the mine hose. Remove the mine hose from the charger inlet fitting, 4, Open the main air supply ball valve on the manifold. The tank pressure should not discharge out of the inlet filter. 5, Slowly open the tank exhaust ball valve to discharge the tank.
