BANDWIDTH MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW
NOC
• Normally, all remotes are considered to have best effort service in both the outroute and
inroute directions
• The Fair Access Policy (FAP) feature can be implemented to tune the outroute throughput
for individual remotes based on their service plans
• The Inroute Quality Service (IQoS) feature can be implemented to provide dedicated inroute
bandwidth for a group of remotes

FAIR ACCESS POLICY
Service Plan
• DIRECWAY Fair Access Policy can be enabled to provide equal access to all remotes.
• Each remote is assigned to a Service Plan
– Each Service Plan will specify the level of throughput
• The NOC will keep track of the average data rate allowed by the service agreement for that
user and try to maintain a running average of the user’s total throughput
– If the user exceeds its average data rate, the link will be adjusted to reduce the
throughput

INROUTE 5
• The system can guarantee the availability of inroute bandwidth to eligible sites
– Inroutes are configured in groups and the remotes are assigned to a group
– Prioritization can be configured in each group
• 4 levels of prioritization
• Spoofed and un-spoofed traffic
• Remotes not assigned to a IQOS will use the common bandwidth

INROUTE GROUP
• Each inroute group must contain Aloha channels, stream slots, and a set of ranging
channels
