Career
Became a lawyer in Illinois & a Whig party leader elected to the
Illinois House of Representatives (8 years) and elected 16 th
president of the USA (1861-1865)
Honours
His portrait appears on two denomination of US currency the penny
and $5 bill, and also appears an many postage stamps and he has
been memorialized in many town city and country names. Lincoln
Memorial Ford’s Theater and Petersen House (where he died) in
Washington DC are most famous an most visited and US navy
Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is named after him
Facts:
 He was born in a log cabin to an extremely poor family and he
was largely self-educated and taught himself law.
 He was 6’4” tall – the tallest US president, and was the first US
president to wear a beard
 He led the Union into the civil war to protect the nation and
put an end to slavery.
 A sculpture of his head measuring 60-foot high 18m is carved
into the granite of Mt Rushmore South Dakota.
 He died on the day after being shot ford’s theater in
