DEGREE OF ACCEPTABILITY AND RELIABITY OF THE SIMPLIFIED HANDBOOK ON

UNDER CHASSIS PROBLEMS AND TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES

CHAPTER I

Introduction:

Exploring and discovering knowledge is nothing new to us since humanity’s curiosity is infinite.
Technologies are products of curiosity, developed to ease our daily life works, one of the greatest
technologies ever created are automobiles. Since then, traveling and transportation takes less
effort and less time.

Background of the study:

Most car owners use their vehicles for work purposes like commuting from home to workplace
and for delivering goods and services. As time goes by, the vehicle gets old and some of its parts
will become faulty and will no longer function properly which could lead to an accident without
having it repaired. One of the most important parts of a vehicle that must be repaired and
maintained is the under chassis. A vehicle’s under chassis have three main parts: clutch, steering
and suspension. Clutch connects the engine to the drive shaft, to transfer power from the engine
to the wheels. Steering steers the wheels left or right. Lastly, the suspension absorbs shock while
driving on an uneven ground.

According to Lowman, J. (2020) in his personal blog entitled the mechanical failures that cause
an accident, modern vehicles are manufactured with strict safety standards, car accidents occur
due to mechanical failures especially in under chassis which are: 1.) Tires/wheels -one of the
most common causes of car crash responsible for 30% of all accidents according to NHTSA
surveys. Two of the most frequent types of problems with tires are tire blowouts and worn tires.
Blowouts can happen for a number of reasons, such as a worn-out, under- or over-inflated tire
suddenly bursting under pressure, tires being punctured by debris in the road, or even sudden,
severe temperature changes. Tire blowouts drastically reduce your ability to control the vehicle
all at once, causing crashes. Over time, tires will start to wear thin, losing their tread. Worn tires
are more likely to slip, take more distance to brake, and aren’t as responsive because of their
weak grip on the road. This can be a major problem on the road, as it compromises tire grip—
and can result in your car hydroplaning in inclement weather (snow, rain, etc.). Hydroplaning,
also known as aquaplaning, occurs when your vehicle’s tires lose traction and cause your car to
slide uncontrollably on the wet road. Losing control of the car due to hydroplaning can be
a major cause of car accidents in Florida during the rainy season, so it’s important to get your
tires checked before those months;2.) Brakes- bad brakes are a major factor in rear-end
collisions, where the inability to stop time causes a vehicle to run right into the vehicle in front.
The same NHTSA survey reported that bad brakes as responsible for 22% of car accidents due to
mechanical failure. Common contributing factors to brake-related car accidents are: a.) Faulty /
Worn Brake Lines. Leaks in brake lines may allow brake fluid to drain away, compromising
brake performance; b.) ABS Malfunctions. An Antilock Brake System (ABS) is designed to
automatically prevent the wheels from locking up when drivers hit the brakes hard—preventing
slipping and loss of control. ABS malfunctions can compromise braking performance; c.) Worn
Brake Pads & Discs. The brake pads and discs in your car wear out a little bit more with every
use. Over time, this wear makes it harder to stop your vehicle, resulting in longer stop distances
and increased accident risks; 3.) Steering and suspension- the common critical season for a car
accident cited in an NHTSA report was a combination of
“steering/suspension/transmission/engine-related problems” that accounted for just 3% of the
traffic accidents.

When travelling, driver and passenger’s safety relies on the condition of the vehicle so if drivers
encountered a problem on their vehicle's under chassis it's best to have it get fixed immediately
or else it will get worse if ignored. In repairing the under chassis, drivers and auto mechanics
need a reliable handbook when encountering under chassis problems to know the proper
troubleshooting procedures. This study aims to determine the degree of acceptability and
reliability of the simplified handbook om under chassis problems and troubleshooting
procedures.

The conceptual framework shows the input, process, and output. The independent variable is
input while the output is the dependent variable. The researcher will conduct survey questions to
target respondents regarding the simplified handbook to answer the chosen research problem.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study aims to provide reliable information to those who needs it regarding the chosen topic.
In the future, other researchers may find it tough to discover what they really want so this study
can serve as a guide for them to produce new knowledge and information. For drivers especially
to those who lacks knowledge in automotive, this study will provide information on which
reliable handbook suits them in maintaining the good condition of their vehicle. This study will
also expand the body of knowledge of teachers in the field automotive. The institution can also
keep the findings of this study for future purposes.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study aims to know the Degree of acceptability and Reliability of the Simplified Handbook
on Under Chassis Problems and Troubleshooting Procedures. The respondents are 15 individuals
local auto mechanic in La Trinidad Benguet.
HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY
The degree of reliability and acceptability of the simplified handbook on under chassis problems
and troubleshooting procedures is very important to determine which handbook is preferable for
drivers and auto mechanics whether it is a “Do It Yourself” handbook or not. If the researchers
follow a specific action, the outcome will answer the research problem. The independent
variable is the simplified handbook which will be processed to have the expected result which is
the dependent variable degree of acceptability and reliability.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aimed to determine under chassis breakdowns and simple troubleshooting procedures.
Specifically, this study sought to answer the questions:
1. What under chassis breakdowns and troubleshooting procedures could be compiled to come
up with a simple and reliable handbook?
2. What is the degree of acceptability and reliability of the simplified handbook?
CHAPTER II
METHODOLOGY

This chapter discuss about the research design of methodology used by the researcher.
This includes the population and locale of the study, data collection procedure, data collection
instrument and the treatment of data.

Research Design
This study will use descripting design under quantitative research design. It is used in
relation to survey as the research intends to gather information about under chassis breakdowns
and simple troubleshooting procedures of drivers and car owners. This study used quantitative
research design. It is used in relation to survey as the research intends to determine the degree
of acceptability and reliability of simplified handbook on under chassis problems and
troubleshooting.

Population and Locale of the Study

The respondents are local automotive technicians from La Trinidad, Benguet a total of 15
individuals.

Data Collection Procedure

In connection to data gathering procedure, the researcher will ask permission from the
target respondents which are local automotive technicians. The researchers used survey
questionnaires as data gather instruments. Afterwards the researchers explain how the
respondents answered the following questions after that the researchers deeply gave thanks for
answering the survey questionnaires

Data Collection Instrument

Survey question is the main tool of the study due to its conveniences of uses. The
questionnaire contains questions in connection to under chassis problems and troubleshooting
procedures. The first part of the question contains the common under chassis problems
encountered by drivers and the second phase will be the troubleshooting procedures of the under
chassis problems encountered.

Treatment of data
In the treatment of the data, the researcher will use the Spearman Rho. This will help the
researchers find the under chassis problems and troubleshooting procedures of the drivers to
device a more reliable and realistic handbook.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
