Erratum

In the article written by Bernard Friedland entitled "Clinical Radiological Issues in Orthodontic
Practice," which a p p e a r e d in the J u n e 1998 issue (Vol. 4, No. 2, p p 64-78), there is a correction to be
n o t e d in the second p a r a g r a p h on page 67 as follows:
Even with a constant t a r g e t - f l m distance, there will be slight differences in magnification between
patients. Even assuming all patients are properly positioned so that their midsagittal planes are always
150 cm f r o m the target, due to differing h e a d widths, the fight side of a smaller patient's head will be
farther from, and the left side closer to, the target than are the respective right and left sides of a
person with a larger h e a d width. In clinical practice this is probably not of significance because the
differences are small and there is ordinarily no desire or n e e d to c o m p a r e films f r o m one patient with
those of another. In a research setting, however, one may wish to account for these differences.
T h e legend o f Figure 15 on page 73 should read: A patient positioned so that the arches are
eccentrically located with respect to the focal trough. If positioned as indicated here, the left side will
be magnified and the right side minified c o m p a r e d with a properly exposed p a n o r a m i c fihn.
