This would be the whole summary of the movie but as data you can mention the
following ...
The story of La Casa Lobo is loosely inspired by the anecdotes of some of the
survivors of the so-called Colonia Dignidad, a German sect founded in Chile at the end of
World War II. Its leader, Paul Schäfer, was a Nazi sympathizer who fled Germany after
being accused of sexually abusing a pair of minors. In the eyes of Chilean society, this
remote commune was a place of harmony, propelled by its multiple agricultural activities.
However, life inside the colony was completely different from the angelic image that was
shown to the outside. A place where the worst atrocities were commanded by its leader, and
affected not only the inhabitants of the colony, but also the dissidents of the dictatorship of
Augusto Pinochet.
Analysis
Director Biography
Joaquín Cociña was born in Concepción, Chile, in 1980. He is a visual artist and
filmmaker. He currently resides and works in Amsterdam. Degree in Visual Arts from the
Catholic University of Chile and Master in Literary Criticism from the University of Chile.
He has participated in artistic residencies in Holland and France.
This work took five years to make and portrays the atmosphere of the infamous
Colonia Dignidad, a German sect that functioned as a center for prison, torture and
disappearance of opponents during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990), and
that was founded and directed by the former Nazi military Paul Schäfer, who escaped from
Germany on accusations of pedophilia and who on Chilean soil continued to commit abuses
protected by a network of allies of the political right.
It creates a tense and dark environment that does not materialize and that makes
each sequence vehement, not knowing what to expect, maintaining tension. That rewriting
of fairy tales, or that mixture of stories that disrupts the collective imagination, creating a
new version or fable is a forceful and accomplished work, but without achieving a
grandiloquent result.
Although La Casa Lobo evokes the spirit of several children's stories, this is a horror
film not suitable for children. An experimental film that uses its distinctive prose to
highlight one of the darkest and most controversial episodes of the South American nation.
Like any piece of art, La Casa Lobo incites an immediate emotional reaction, but also
invites the viewer to make a deep reflection and to continue investigating the subject once
the screening is over. A disturbing fable that in addition to giving us a hard history lesson,
warns us of those wolves that appear good-natured under the guise of lamb.
It is a very meritorious work by the visual artists Cristóbal León and Joaquín
Cociña, perhaps not intended to satisfy all types of audiences, but a waste of talent put on a
valuable film that should be a must for anyone interested in this type of animation. You can
see La Casa Lobo from today in alternative rooms of our country.
Recording the film
The Wolf House was recorded over several years, in various locations around the
world, where directors installed life-size sets in galleries and museums. His studio is a
mobile space that can be built almost anywhere. As a living work, the artists worked in
each place and the spectators could witness the process.
