Utilis Ltd. has developed a cost-effective software solution for detecting fresh-water leaks in water supply
systems, utilizing PATENTED, one-of-its-kind remote-sensing technology. By providing leakage locations with
high accuracy, regardless of volume or demographic density, Utilis analytic technology helps municipalities,
Water Utilities and contractors to reduce NRW (Non-Revenue Water) and improve efficiency in subterranean
leaks detection/control. Utilis solution, based on independent remote assessment technology, makes field crew
work more effective, covering a large area, accurately and fast.
Year of establishment: 2013

Background of the company

Utilis, an innovative water management company based in Israel has developed a revolutionary new way of
detecting non-revenue water leaks by analyzing spectral satellite images. This innovative technology has been
adapted from the search for water on other planets, underscoring its high reliability and outstanding capability
here on earth. Utilis offers a fresh approach which provides a non-invasive, innovative method to the problem of
water leakage. When compared with any other current non-revenue water solution available to water managers,
satellite based leak detection will identify more water leaks in the same amount of time and resource spent.

Examples of past projects

Melbourne and Sunbury Australian: “Based on this pilot, we estimate Utilis remote sensing technology will
substantially improve our leak detection process, saving us time and resources which we use today to detect leaks”
- Dean Barnett, Program Manager, Pipe Rover & Leak Detection -

Technologies & products

General description:
Using technology that is used to look for water on other planets, Utilis analyzes satellite imagery to detect
leaks and non-revenuewater. The result? Leak detection that covers thousands of square kilometres (over 1,300
sq miles) at once. The leaks are displayed in user friendly GIS reports including street locations, with great
accuracy, saving significant labor associated with finding leaks using current methods.
Function of the product(s):
Utilis surveys an entire network periodically, providing 4-12 sets of findings annually. This report will allow
the “boots on the ground” to focus only on the leak confirmation stage saving them the effort proactively
trying to, blindly find leaks. With Utilis there is no upfront investment foron hardware, and it has the
unprecedented benefit of finding more leaks in the same amount of time when compared with using a smart
water management system or an acoustic leak detection technology. The lower opportunity cost is a result of
lowering non-revenue water, in particular from finding those small leaks that have the potential to run a very
long time without detection.

Company profile
TaKaDu is the global leader in Water Network Monitoring, providing a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution
for water utilities. TaKaDu’s solution detects, classifies, alerts and provides real-time insight on leaks, bursts,
network breaches, faulty meters and other inefficiencies. The solution is based on complex statistical and
mathematical algorithms which analyze online data from existing meters within the network (flow, pressure,
etc) in conjunction with external data (weather, holidays, etc). TaKaDu’s patented technology is easy to deploy,
requiring no network changes, no additional devices and no capital expenditure. The service is in commercial
use by leading water utilities worldwide, served through a global network of partners and resellers.
The TaKaDu team is comprised of top-notch scientists with vast data analytics experience, alongside seasoned
executives from global software leaders. TaKaDu is a founding member of SWAN (Smart Water Networks
forum). The company is the winner of many industry awards, including the prestigious Technology Pioneer 2011
award from the World Economic Forum.
Year of establishment: January 2009
No. of employees: 35

Solution General Description

TaKaDu’s solution takes SCADA readings (flow, pressure, quality and other measurements) and GIS data about
the water network, cleans them of “noise” and constructs a model of how the water network behaves, adjusting
for the day of the week, hour, seasonality and operations and maintenance activity. It then monitors the
network to detect anomalies based on that model and alerts when they happen. This lets water utilities “see”
the network and detect leaks and other anomalies before they become much larger operational issues.
TaKaDu’s monitoring service is used by utilities worldwide, from Australia to Latin America, providing real alerts
about leaks, bursts and other issues, such as faulty meters and network configuration problems.

Solution Benefits and Value

TaKaDu’s unique approach helps monitor the network’s “blind spots” more effectively, control water loss, find
more leak events and identify many small leaks before they become large. TaKaDu’s ability to find faulty
meters is in and of itself a major benefit. Most importantly, TaKaDu’s system doesn’t require any physical
network or equipment investment on the utility side. Benefits include the ability to:
••Reduce and mitigate the need to replace network infrastructure
••Save water lost to network issues through leaks and bursts
••Save energy and other inputs wasted by producing water that is then lost to network inefficiencies
••Prevent “Network Events”, e.g. energy wasted without water loss in pressure zone boundary breaches
••Reduce dependence on new water sources, as current sources will be more effectively utilized.
Even with well-established active leakage control practices, TaKaDu is proven increase water networks’
efficiency through detection ofmany network events, water loss events and other issues, often without prior
notification by existing monitoring methods.

Objectives / Target companies

Company profile
Emefcy develops, manufactures and markets new, energy-efficient wastewater treatment solutions, aiming
to change the economics of various markets and addressing the growing global demand for clean water in
municipal and industrial plants.
Emefcy’s advanced manufacturing facility is equipped with state of the art production machinery, enabling the
company to control the quality and meet the quantity requirements of its market.
Year of establishment: 2008
No. of employees: 35

Background of the company

Emefcy is a public company traded in the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX: EMC) since 2015.
Emefcy’s founders,Eytan Levy and Ronen Shechter, have alsofounded Aqwise– one of the MBBR pioneers and
leaders in its field, having over 350 installations globally.

Technologies & products

Emefcy’s prime technology - the Spiral Aerobic Biofilm Reactor is based on the MABR technology which was
recently introduced to the market. It is a modular, decentralized wastewater treatment solution, using up to
90% less energy than most other conventional technology.
Emefcy’s MABR is based on a spirally wound air sleeve with an internal spacer, through which low pressure
air is blown, and an external water side spacer between wraps of the spiral. The spiral is submerged in a tank,
to which wastewater is fed continuously, and from which effluent is discharged by overflow. This patented
solution saves most of the aeration energy of the biological treatment process by eliminating the need to blow
compressed air into the depth of the water
The MABR reduces the quantity of excess sludge along with its treatment and removal costs, in addition to
the reduction in energy consumption. These two components account for 75% of a WWTP’s operating costs. In
cases where nitrogen limits are low, Emefcy’s MABR enables compliance with regulations, by simple operation
and lower addition of an external carbon source.
Emefcy’s EBR, still in development, produces direct electricity from the wastewater treatment process, thus
making it energy positive and changing the economics of the industrial wastewater treatment market.

(CrO4), Arsenate (AsO4), Perchlorate (ClO4), Phosphate (PO4), Sulphate (SO4-2), Nitrate (NO3-), Nickel
(Ni), Copper (Cu), Permanganate (MnO4), Silver (Ag) etc.
ToxSorb’s media has been successfully operating in industrial heavy metal removal applications of for
over 3 years.

Technologies & products

ToxSorb’s MAC platform is a technological evolution of traditional activated carbon, which is a well-established
technology for organic contaminants in water. This is achieved by chemically modifying the activated carbon,
enabling the removal of a wide variety of inorganic pollutants, while maintaining its original adsorption
capabilities for organic pollutants. Each platform can be engineered to have an affinity and selectivity towards
a specific type of pollutant, while non- toxic molecules pass through the filter. This platform is inexpensive
to maintain, due to a regenerative process that enables the reuse of the filter, without producing large
quantities of brine.

Objectives / Target companies

ToxSorb sees a wide range of treatment applications for its MAC platform due to the efficiency and economics of
the technology, and the needs in the global marketplace to combat dangerous pollutants like arsenic, chromium
& perchlorate.
Our current objective is to implement drinking & industrial wastewater filtration systems abroad, with a focus on
mining wastewater, municipal drinking water treatment, groundwater contamination and industrial wastewater
applications. We are actively targeting technology integration companies, environmental consulting companies
and large filtration companies with an interest in marketing, selling and implementing new technologies.

used worldwide in showers. The SmarTap cartridge offers a number of unique features that make the product
attractive to both commercial and residential customers.
SmarTap has already received certification for its product and has established key industry partnerships that
will enable market penetration. The company is currently piloting the product in several high end commercial
installations with excellent preliminary results and aims to begin selling to the commercial market in Q1 2014
and to the residential market by late 2014 via OEM agreements
Core Technology:
The heart of the system is the E-cartridge. It is a revolutionary registered patent, in the way the outlet
is controlled. Using our patented technology, the output of the system is stable in virtually any inlets
conditions. Contrary to the traditional feed-back controllers, this controller uses combined feed-forward -
feed-back method that tested to be superior in its field providing a significantly higher degree of stability.
Technology Advantages:
SmarTap offers a number of unique features that make the product attractive to both commercial and
residential users:
••Great shower experience: SmarTap allows each user to get their personalized shower experience,
effortlessly, with a press of a button.
••Safety: SmarTap system eliminates scalding risk, even in case of a loss of pressure in the cold water pipe.
••Monitoring and control: The system calculates flow rate and temperature as well as enabling online control
over all faucets that are part of the network. A central location serves both to monitor water use and, when
