FIRE INVESTIGATION WEBINAR ACTIVITY

The webinar was all about the history of fire investigation in the U.S., the origin and development
of standards, and the mythology that plagued the profession. But, John Lentini, the speaker focuses more
on how to distinguish the different kinds of fire patterns and lines of demarcation, and also the speaker
debunked and mentioned the misconceptions or myths of other fire investigators regarding fire cases.
Additionally, Mr. Lentini gets to explained in fire investigators look beyond the lowest and deepest char
and, by accounting for ventilation-generated fire patterns, find the real origin of the fire.

My key takeaway from the webinar is how the speaker Mr. John Lentini explained thoroughly the
importance of studying the depth of fire and every detail, knowledge, and fire pattern so that every fire
investigator can determine the cause of the incident without any misconceptions. Mr. John Lentini also
mentioned the different cases about the investigators who have the wrong analysis which led to some
suspects turned out to be that they are not at the fault for the incident. That Is why he is always comparing
the myths and real investigations to all individuals to avoid mistrial or capturing suspects that are not.
Not only he highlighted the obligations of fire investigators but also the vitality of having prior
knowledge about fire investigations to all the forensic students and aspiring fire investigators.

When performing any forensic investigation, the investigators must utilize a reliable methodology
throughout their investigation. In the case of forensic investigations, the scientific method is broken into
seven steps: identifying the problem, defining the problem, collecting data, analyzing data, developing a
hypothesis, testing the hypothesis, and selecting the final hypothesis (Ogle, Haussmann, Lucas, Capenter,
& Morrison III, 2003). The importance of Fire Investigation in the Forensic Science Field is that Fire
Investigation includes a scientific method that is the body techniques of all the investigations that are
requisite to study and investigate every incident. After firefighters have eliminated the fire, fire
investigators investigate all fire-related cases. The procedure is related to the process of investigating
crime scenes in which the incident should be preserved and evidence gathered and analyzed, however
with various new challenges and risks. The investigation also included intently inspecting the damaged
scene to ascertain the source of the fire and, ultimately, the cause.
