C1 Genres of Writing

I. B2-C1 Átfedés

Ahogy korábban megtanultuk, a különböző írások két nagy csoportba oszthatók. Egyes műfajok
viszonylag gyakorinak számítanak felsőfokon is. Ezek *-al vannak jelölve.

Fogalmazás-típusú műfajok: *Article (újságcikk), *Composition (fogalmazás), *Description (leírás),

Review (műkritika), *Essay (esszé), Blog post (blogbejegyzés), Facebook post, *Short story (rövid
elbeszélő jellegű történet), Entry (egy fogalmazás amivel nevezünk egy versenyre)

Levél-típusú műfajok: *Formal / Informal Letter (levél), *Formal / Informal Email, Online comment

II. C1 Új-műfajok

Új műfajok: Argumentative essay (érvelő esszé), Opinion essay (véleménykifejtő esszé),

Descriptive essay (leíró esszé), Report (valamilyen adatok elemzése)

Az argumentative, opinion és descriptive szavak legtöbbször nincsenek beleírva a feladatba, csak a

feladat értelmezésével derül ki, hogy mi lesz az esszé célja.
 III. Structure

A bal oldalon egy levél felépítése, míg a jobb oldalon egy fogalmazás szerkezete látható.

IV. Style

A különböző írásbeli műfajokban, különböző stílusban kell írnunk. Egyes műfajok, például az
article egészen széles skálán mozognak e tekintetben. Ilyenkor a feladattól, a célközönségtől, a
témától és rajtunk is műlik, hogy milyen stílusban írunk. Az a fontos, hogy egy íráson belül
lehetőleg ne jelenjenek meg teljesen különböző stíluselemek vegyesen.
 V. Essay

Style: sophisticated / academic language, avoid colloquialism & sensationalism; impersonal,

objective, detached tone except for some descriptive or personal essays

Structure:

Title

Strong opening sentence starting with a strong word. Brief introduction. Thesis statement in the
end of the paragraph (aim, statement, opinion - what the essay will be about)

Begin with a topic sentence (briefly introducing the topic of the paragraph, more general than
specific). Details. End with a kind of conclusion of reflection to the topic sentence or to the thesis
statement.

Start the conclusion with a linking word: Altogether, In conclusion, In summary etc. Possibly
include a sentence like: The limitations of the present paper did not allow for a thorough overview
of the industry, so I supported my arguments with …, Due to space limitations, the essay has been
limited to…Summarize the ideas. Look into the future.

VI. Argumentative Essay

Egy állítást támasztunk alá több bekezdésen át, több érvvel és maximum az utolsó bekezdésben
hozunk egy ellenérvet (counter-argument) amit rögtön cáfolunk is (refutation).

Thesis statement ideas:

 This essay will argue in favour of beating nicotine addiction.

 Consequently, nuclear power plants should be closed and banned until nuclear technology
becomes advanced enough to minimize, if not eliminate, the potential risks. 
 This new generation of American hip-hop artists has increasing social awareness in the 21 st

century.
 VII. Opinion Essay

Az érvelő esszék egy fajtája. A témát jobban megvizsgáljuk, több nézőpontot is bemutathatunk.
Nagyban befolyásolja a struktúrát, hogy mit kér a feladat, mennyire vizsgáljuk meg a többi oldalt.
Feltétlenül dominálnia kell annak az oldalnak amit mi képviselünk. Nem feltétlenül tudományos
tényekkel érvelünk.

Thesis statement ideas:

A, Task: Do the benefits outweigh the drawbacks?

TS: In my opinion, this trend has more advantages than disadvantages.

B, Task: Discuss both opinions and give your opinion.

TS: Whilst, some people believe… I am of the opinion that...

VIII. Report

Style: Highly formal, avoid colloquialism & sensationalism; impersonal, objective, detached tone

Thesis statement ideas :

 This report intends to draw attention to the main problem areas and to make appropriate
recommendations.
 The aim of this report is to summarize the result of the previously mentioned survey.

Structure:

Title

Say what data you have, mention if a survey or study has been done. Say what the aim of the
report is.

Start with a topic sentence for a more logical structure. Details.

Some kind of summary.
