DEFINITION
"Service Rig" is a mobile service carrier, with a mounted derrick (rigid mast)
and draw-works, used for pulling and running jointed or continuous tubulars
and conventional or continuous sucker rods, to remove, replace, and service
downhole components in oil and gas wells.
The typical operation of a service rig is to travel to a well site where it will
remain for a period of less than one day to up to 60 days, with an average of
five days. Upon completion of the job, it is moved to another well site, with the
majority of the moves being either short distance on public roads, or in-field
(not on public roads). About 5% of a service rig's time is on public roads.
This policy applies only to the Service Rig itself, and not to support vehicles
which travel with it.
This policy does not apply to other vehicles such as mobile cranes, water drilling rigs,
permanently mounted equipment, rat-hole rigs, equipment mounted on semi-trailers, or units
which carry a payload (i.e., sand, water, nitrogen, etc.).
