The government is pursuing an ambitious target of making India a US$5 trillion economy by 2024 (financial year ending
March 2025) and the country needs to spend about US $1.4 trillion (Rs 100 trillion) on infrastructure during 2019-2024
for achieving the above. Accordingly, the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) has projected a total infrastructure
investment of Rs 111 trillion during the period, with major sectors being energy (24 %), roads (18 %), urban development
(17 %) and railways (12 %). It will be funded by central government with a 39 % share, state governments with 40 % and
the balance 21 % to come from the Private Sector.

The Government of India (GoI) has aptly set ambitious targets and conceptualized flagship programs for infrastructure
development such as, National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), Jal Jeevan mission, Gati shakti Mission, Grand national
highway construction targets, Modernisation of railways, Enhancement of road, water and air connectivity with the
initiatives of Bharatmala (highways), Sagarmala (ports), UDAN (airports), Railway station development programs,
Inland waterways development, AMRUT & Smart Cities (urban infrastructure), Development of the 5 industrial
