Data (information) in the RAM caltbe read and written quickly in any order. Normally, the random access memory is in the form of computer chips. Usually, the contents of RAM are accessible faster than other types of information storage but are lost every time the computer is tuned off. Non-volatile random-access memory (NVRAM) keeps its data without using power, but is more expensive and works more 82 [Poe Computer maintenance | Yonas Dereje slowly, so it is used in smaller amounts. RAM works using the semi conductive properties of transistors. + Type of RAM RAM is of two types. x © Static RAM (SRAM) x@ © Dynamic RAM (DRAM) & Static RAM (SRAM) - The word static indicates that the memory Hiren an as long as power is being supplied. However, data is lost when the power seta ‘to volatile nature. SRAM chips use @ matrix of 6-transistors and no capacitors. T do not require power to prevent leakage, so SRAM need not be refreshed on a re ee There is extra space in the matrix, bene SRAM uses more chips than DRAM for the same amount of storage spacedQuaGitg the manufacturing costs higher. SRAM is thus used as cache memor 5 very fast access. Characteristic of Static RAM Ss = Long life © + Noneed to a . iO U; ache memory nsive igh power consumption RAM (DRAM) - DRAM, unlike SRAM, must be continually refreshed in order to maiftain the data. This is done by placing the memory on a refresh circuit that rewrites the data several hundred times per second. DRAM is used for most system memory, as it is cheap and small, All DRAMS are made up of memory cells, which are composed of one capacitor and one transistor. a3|Page Computer maintenance | Yonas Dereje Characteristics of Dynamic RAM = Short data lifetime = Needs to be refreshed continuously = Slower as compared to SRAM = Used as RAM = Less expensive xe eS ‘+ Failure symptom of RAM + When you first turn on your computer it runs fine, but as y uit your business you = Less power consumption notice that its performance diminishes. By lunchtime, yugbgjtes take minutes to load and local programs run at a snail's pace. This type of, Rerioration of PC performance, especially with memory-intensive programs, may be Baused by a RAM problem. + Your computer randomly restarts while in the middle of something or freeze sporadically. It may also reboot alimosteghg iiately upon opening the desktop. This could bea sign of faulty RAM, + A blue screen with white te» 3 Before restarting. Blue-screen errors are annoying because you do not ever uns shance to read the error message. Bad RAM is one thing that cause them. + Files particular! If you have one or a combination of the above problems, you are likely facing a memory issue. = How to fix RAM Reflow is the stage of “reflowing solder” where the ‘solder’ or ‘solder paste” ack te from Solid to Liquid, at high heat temperature to make a complete and proper, on PCB (printed board circuits) using hot air gun machine, But ifthe above my on “joint work you have to buy a new ram. ao o ° = Usage of HDD we ‘The hard drive of a computer is a device that stores ae fare installed on a computer, as well asl the datafile created and used by hs softwe, Ts includes any dctmens you bave created and downloaded, such as photos and musig Weird drive is a form of permanent storage, rather than temporary memory such as randoaeaQye ‘memory (RAM). S Type of HDD ‘ThePre two general types of hard drives: hard disk drives (HDD), which use one or more rotating discs and rely on magnetic storage, and solid-state drives (SSD), which have no moving mechanical parts, but use flash memory like the kind found in USB flash drives. If you have a regular desktop computer, you most likely have a hard disk drive. Solid-state drives are more typical for high-end, expensive laptops. a5 |Page DE Advantages Maximum compatibility Disadvantages Lacks support for new technology such as native command queuing and hot-plugging hard drives Hot plugging —_IDE interface does not support hot (add/remove _plugging(i.. the ability to add and component while remove devices while the computer the computer isis running and the OS automatically running) recognize the change.)
