Supreme Lord or one of his manifestations
descends to nature, takes form in the
material world, to save nature from
destruction and evil, establish dharma and
save people who practice Dharma/Truth.

ITIHASA
Itihāsa is a subset of Hindu literature
that tells epic/heroic tales of Hindu
kings and warriors of the past and is
flavored with religious philosophies,
mythologies and supernatural beings.
Itihāsa means "actual incident". There
are two famous Itihāsa, namely
Ramayana and Mahābhārata.
PURANA
In Hindu teachings, the Puranas contain
stories of ancient gods, kings, rishis.
The Puranas contain many explanations
about the customs of the rishis (or also
called the Prophets).
