ANATOMICAL TERMS

I 1. Means toward the midline, or center of

the body.
C 2. The patient is lying face down on his or
her stomach.
F 3. Means toward, or closer to, the feet
K 4. Means close, or near the point of
reference.
O 5. Means inside the body.
L 6. Means distant, or far away from the
point of reference.
H 7. Means toward the back.
D 8. The patient is lying on her left or right
side.
E 9. Means toward, or closer to, the head.
J 10. Refers to the left or right of the midline.
P 11. Means outside of the body.
G 12. Means toward the front.
B 13. The patient is lying face up on his or her
back.
M 14. Means near the surface.
A 15. A patient’s body stands erect with arms
down at the sides palm facing you
N 16. Means remote, or far from the surface.
