Q.1 Describe the internal iliac artery under the headings of course and relation, branches of
anterior and posterior division .

The internal iliac artery is the major artery of the pelvis. It originates at the bifurcation of the
common iliac artery into its internal and external branches .
COURSE AND RELATION:
The artery descends inferiorly, crossing the pelvic inlet to enter the lesser pelvis. During its
descent, it is situated medially to the external iliacvein and obturator nerve. At the superior
border of the greater sciatic foramen, it divides into anterior and posterior trunks.

Anterior division:
• Umblical Artery
• Superior Vesical artery
• Obturator artery
• Inferior vehicular artery
• Uterine artery
• Middle rectal artery
• Internal pudendal artery
• Inferior gluteal artery

Posterior division:
• Iliolumbar artery
• Lateral sacral artery
• Superior gluteal artery

Q.2 Enumerate the tributaries of internal iliacvein.

The internal iliacvein receives the middle rectal, obturator, lateral sacral,
inferior gluteal, and superior gluteal veins as tributaries.

Anterior lobe:

Median lobe: Adenoma


Lateral lobe: Adenoma in old age

Posterior lobe: Carcinoma


Q.4 What are the primary and secondary supports of uterus?
The uterus is primarily supported by the pelvic diaphragm, perineal body, and urogenital diaphragm.

Secondarily, it is supported by ligaments, including the peritoneal ligament and the broad ligament
of uterus.
